It’s not really official yet, but Nikki Finke is reporting on her blog that a deal has been reached between Jon Favreau and Marvel Studios to make him the director of Iron Man 2.
Responsible for the massive success of Iron Man this summer, Favreau took his battle to the internet when he didn’t immediately get an offer from Marvel to stay on for the sequel.
Now, I don’t know the interior workings at Marvel, or what was going on in Favreau’s mind, but Nikki Finke called Jon an “asshole” because of the way he voiced his discontent publicly.
I was following all this closely, and if you base it off the news that we had out there, I really don’t see how Favreau acted that badly. Sure, maybe he could have kept it to himself, but honestly, in this business, would that have even happened had he stayed quiet? Someone would have been talking about it regardless.
It seems to me that Marvel should have locked this guy up on the opening weekend of Iron Man, and here we are months later and finally getting the news.
What do you guys think? Was Favreau an a-hole? Or was Marvel?
First off.. BOOYA!!!! Next to Jon himself, I'm the second most happiest person in the world about this!!!! FINALLY they do the right thing and ante up a bit…
Secondly.. Nikki is WAYYYY off… where does she get off saying he is an ahole because he is answering questions that are being asked of him and giving his perspective. Jon has fans and he provided updates to his fans either online or in interviews, because they all wanted to know if he was locked for a followup to well done movie. It was either you or Jason (I cant recall) who said it very well before that Marvel offerred ZERO new dollars and originally got him (Jon) AT A BARGAIN PRICE AND WANTED TO CONTINUE PAYING THAT BARGAIN PRICE, DIDNT EVEN OFFER A MODEST UPGRADE AND THAT IS INSULTING BEYOND MEANS ESPECIALLY ON A SUPER SUCCESSFUL MOVIE SUCH AS THIS ONE, (crap sorry, I didnt notice the caps and I'm not going back and retyping it), but Jon is an a-hole because he answered the media and gave fans an update?!?!?!?… I'm gonna say the clear a-hole here is Nikki because I cant understand how you can call the man whacked for answering questions, and for once honestly… she just didnt like the answer but, because he gave them he's an a-hole?!?! LOL that might be the funniest thing I've read all day…
So say we all!!
Well, Nikki gets some great inside information, but a lot of people think she represents the studios way more than actors, so she likely has a biased opinion about these things.
And I love Favreau, so I may have one too
Who cares if she is the cultural center of the information universe… why would you call someone an a-hole if they arent being offensive, rude, obscene, degrading, belittling, and condencending toward fans, or the masses in any sense? He simply has not done any of that, just simply giving answers, but cause Nikki says hes an a-hole, oh gee, must be how it is….NOT! Nikki might stick to being a messenger of her purported priceless info she mystical obtains and is valuable for, but leave the name calling to those that deserve it….
And you guys thought I held my feelings back. I wish we could get the Cap'n to open up a little – tell us what he really thinks.
