A bunch of news broke at this year’s TCA Awards (Television Critics Association) regarding the world of Battlestar Galactica, including an update about the upcoming spin-off, Caprica.
First off, while we don’t know the exact date yet, January 2009 is when Galactica will return with the final ten episodes (with 11+ hours in all). That’s still a good six months off, but at least we can stop wondering what month it will be back.
As far as Caprica, Sci Fi executive VP of programming Mark Stern says that depending on how it looks, they may just go ahead and order the series right from the start. Either that, or it will become a standalone movie.
Hopefully it’s as good as everyone is saying, because with BSG ending, it would be fantastic to get another series from these guys to replace it.
From AICN, they also had a few tidbits about Caprica.
- Creator Ronald D. Moore isn’t saying how far from Cylon War I “Caprica” takes place.
- Moore says the 12 Colonies don’t get along all that well in this pre-Cylon War I era.
- There will be no “Lost”-ish flash-forwards to future events.

its set 51 years prior to the current time period apparently….
BSG returning in 2009 is BS. I've never really been a fan of the show. I've seen the season 2 finale which was awesome but it's just too slow for me. I decided to tune in this year since it's the last season mainly for Starbuck (is that her name)? The chick that was on Bionic Woman, the one that was blown up and returned. She intrigued me. I watch for her storyline and getting to Earth. The rest is just blah to me. I just want to know what happens in the end. The mid season cliff hanger was pretty awesome. I love Lucy Lawless (back in the Xena days) so was awesome to see her again. She's such a great actress.
Wow, that was a mixed review if I ever read one
“Too slow” “pretty awesome” “blah” “great actress”
Good stuff
How is it too slow for you? Just because you want to see the conclusion?
Gotta savor the journey man, or else things just wont be worth it.
I think it goes without saying that I'm looking forward to Caprica. Hope it's good.
LOL how is it BS if “I've never really been a fan of the show”…. lol…
LOST is my favorite show and it's not returning for 8 months… that's even more BS than BSG. It's BS for any show to show 10-13 episodes and then take a 6-8 break to show the rest of the season. Why not air the rest starting in September?
Now on to BSG. The sub plots don't interest me. I feel half the characters are boring and half of the characters are just being put in this slow plot that doesn't do them justice. The show is mostly talk and no action. I am not a fan of that. It just drags on to me. I wanted to tune in this year because there was nothing else on at the time and it was the last season. I like the mystery of Kara and her Viper. That's the only reason I really tuned in. I've been fast forwarding most of the episodes to get to the good stuff. Well, what I consider good stuff. Also tuned in because I heard Lucy was returning to the show so that's another reason. The mid season was very cool. I tried watching from the beginning but I found myself tuning out. It's one of those shows that (to me) would make a great movie or trilogy but not a series.
I completely disagree with you concerning BSG. Kara is actually one of my least favorite characters on the show. I find the “talk” to be a refreshing change of pace from a lot of the other shows on TV that do nothing but string together half-hearted action sequences with incoherent plots. BSG takes the time to build the story and flesh out the characters while leading us on a journey through danger and intrigue. And it's not afraid to take chances and do things other shows would never do.
I'm sure it's all those great things you described. Like I said, it's not a show I would typically like so that's why I fast forward through most of it.
What's interesting to me is that you love Lost, which has a lot of the same elements, and same problems. Lots of talking, not a ton of stuff always happens.
I'm just not into the space stuff really. The lingo, the word “frak” drives me nuts. They use it so much, it drives me crazy! lol Half the time, I have no clue what's going on to be honest. With LOST, even with it's similar elements, it's a different kind of show. There so much mystery to the overall answer to the show. So many theories, questions that need to be answered, clues in each episode etc. That keep you watching.
BSG main thing seems to be “Finding Earth”. There's a little mystery with the show (with the final five) and probably some other things from previous seasons. It just seems to be a straight forward kind of show where as LOST has so many things going on, so many layers. I don't know, even with it's similarities, it's different. LOST has gone from a “normal” show about victims of a plane crash trying to survive on an island to a show heavy set on the elements of scifi. I don't know how to explain it, it's just different. : )
That's cool man
At least you love Lost, so you can't be ALL that bad
