I haven’t seen anyone around the comic book blogosphere talking about the special exclusive Heroes comic book that some of us received at Comic-Con last weekend, but the reason could be that it wasn’t exactly exclusive, despite that disclaimer on the cover. It contained a few previously published stories and a brand new one.
It also wasn’t very buzz-worthy.
Especially the final story called Going Postal that ties in with this summer’s online webisodes about Echo, the mailman that can manipulate sound.
I’ll let you make the call. Here is the text from the final panel of the short story, pulled directly out of Echo’s thoughts:
“My name is Echo. I’m just a mailman. But when I get out of here…I’m going postal.”
I seriously almost had a heart attack when my eyes graced that final line. Did someone actually write that and use it in a comic book?
Okay, enough about that. The second story was called The Ten Brides of Takezo Kensei, which was released earlier this year. I haven’t been reading the online comic series for Heroes at all, so excuse my lateness in finding this issue and talking about. But I liked it and wanted to make sure you guys saw it. You can view the whole thing as a video on NBC’s website.
It was written by Chuck Kim (who wrote one episode for the series) and drawn by Peter Steigerwald, and featured Adam Monroe, who was played by David Anders in the show.
He’s also known as Takezo Kensei and was the immortal being that Hiro fought (and killed) in the past and then buried him alive in the present, a coffin his everlasting home.
The comic book lands us inside the coffin, with Adam doing the only thing you can in that situation: Thinking.
“I’ve been on the Earth for over four centuries. But what do I have to show for it? A few dozen names? Takezo Kensei? Richard Sanders? Adam Monroe? What good is immortality when you’re buried alive? When the loves of your live are all dead and gone?”
The next two pages go over his history of relationships over those centuries. Helene from Germany in 1692, who thought him a devil for not aging. Maria in Italy who bore him two sons. Frederica in France. Yumi from Japan in 1784. Angelica in the Northwest Territory in 1787. And the list goes on and on.
But the final page is what is of interest.
“And now I am alone. Died more times than I can count already in this coffin. How long has it been? Hours? Days? Weeks? What a cruel man you are, Hiro Nakamura. But that suits me fine. Because I have my newest bride out there…
…and I’m certain she’ll find me.”
Interesting? Who is this new bride that Monroe is thinking will find him? Do we know her already, or are we being teased for something yet to come?
I haven’t heard anything about this for the upcoming season, but Adam was a very cool character. Perhaps it was mostly because of Anders playing him, an actor I’ve enjoyed since Alias, but either way, it would be cool to see him back.
And considering this comes from a guy who wrote an episode for the show, maybe it has some merit?

Eh… its like another poster or flyer, just a marketing gimmick to throw buzz around the show… true true fans would want it, thats it, has no other bearing…
its true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i think its the chick from the past…the chinese lass that was around Takezo Kensei and Hiro Nakamura back in feudel japan….SORRY I CANT THINK OF THE NAME
