SCOOOOOREEEE!!! Just how awesome was that interview!!?!?!?! Very cool that Alex took the time to chat with you, I need to go back and watch a few highlights as I'm not recalling some of the things he mentioned here…. Richard way to go bud!!! Alex thanks for taking the time!!!!
LOL… “I hear SciFi has an opening Wednesday mornings at 2:30″…..”AE: God forbid.”

All I can come up with is Wow. So much information to process. Great interview! Awesome.

Question: What exactly is the third pipe? Was that just a name given to the “special water” arc? Or does it mean something else?

In terms of Paula and Jasmine, I personally found Paula more intriguing than Jasmine. And I can’t see how Marie-Julie didn’t play the characters differently. Paula’s hair style and girl next door vibe Vs. Jasmine’s pity me C3 attitude. I thought they were completely different. Despite the name (it's my mothers name), I loved Paula… grr.

I’m a little disappointed with the scrap of multiple Charlies. I would have loved to see that. I was waiting for the moment when they were going to do that but they never did. Maybe they will in the future (if there is ever going to be a future for this show) but I guess not given his response. Darn.

Thanks for the interview! Appreciate it.

    BTW – It's 3am on Sci-fi, not 2…

One more thing (after cooling down :) ), that was probably the best and the most intriguing intreview I've ever read in this universe.
    Thanks again.
    You're doing a really great job !

  6. Jason A Clark

Fantastic. Thanks to both of you.

  7. Mike Olbinski

    In the UNIVERSE??? :)

Wow…Richard is going to raise his writing fees after this :)

  8. R.A. Porter

Wait…do you mean in Betaverse, or somewhere else? :)

  9. R.A. Porter

3am? Man, I never can remember the right time. Thankfully my Tivo is smarter than I am.

Go back and watch, Sean. There's literally a third tap in the shower early on. I never noticed it on my laptop before.

  10. Mike Olbinski

Hopefully not in the verse I'm currently residing ;)

  11. Sean

What does that mean though? I'm really confused by that. A “third tap”?

  12. R.A. Porter

Hot, cold, and run-off from the Vex-Cor plant.

  13. Dontlk

In which episode ? What plant ? When ?

  14. R.A. Porter

The Vex-Cor reactor/link station out in the desert. Remember back in “And Not a Drop to Drink” when Charlie talks to Jody and her mom? Then he heads to the town buried under the sands and finds that single, oddly placed pipe dripping water.

That whole storyline, with Jody's family leaving town because of the water and Aaron Bridger being blamed for it by dumping old cough syrup, is about the runoff from the Vex-Cor link site. The original writers obviously intended for there to be something special about the water running through/used by the link.

So if you look in the shower at the Glass Door, you'll see that there are actually three taps. 01 has installed a special one other than the hot and cold that obvious contains that runoff water.

  15. Dontlk

Ah right, 01's shower – three taps.
    Thanks Richard.

Thanks! Great interview, very insightful questions. I always felt that CJ never got the praise it rightfully deserved and that it was very unlucky in quite a few respects — because it was a great show.

  17. Sean

If I didn't already look like an idiot as it is, I was coming back here to finally get the courage to ask you again what the heck you meant but I finally understand. lol

I understood the pipe with dripping water. I remembered that but the three taps is what had me confused. I'll have to go back and watch that.

Thanks for explaining it R.A. Porter. Appreciate it.

  18. R.A. Porter

Do NOT feel alone. I felt exactly as stupid when Alex told me that. I never noticed the extra tap.

Oh gosh. Well I held off reading as long as I could (not very long eh?) because of spoilers. Great interview Richard & Alex! I hadn't noticed any of the mentioned items (the 3rd tap in particular), so I'm glad to have that little insight before watching the coming eps. It just seems there was enough to keep the story going for another 10 years…possibly exploring the different Charlies, etc. I'm happy to have another 11 or 12 eps to look forward to even knowing that at this point it doesn't look good for the continuation, except possibly in a spin-off. YAY! I'll be coming back to read again as the story progresses.

The way my girlfriend and I (I recently introduced her to the series after watching its original run in 2004 in Canada) interpreted the three taps was that each tap contained water from the three different verses, and 01 used water from a certain verse to get into that verse. So, if he needed to get to Gammaverse, he's use the tap which contained water from Gammaverse, or if he wanted to go to Beta, the tap with water from there, and so on. This is actually the theory my girlfriend (a very clever girl) came up with, and while it doesn't pan out that way, it's an interesting theory nonetheless.

Although Charlie Jade has a lot of retconning, and at times it seems like the show doesn't know where it wants to go, or will go, it's still one of my favourite shows ever.
