Anytime Hollywood is going to remake a classic film they’re obviously going to make plans to update everything in it to rip apart any notions you might have that anything of the original was actually worth saving. Thus was the case with The Day the Earth Stood Still apparently.

This piece of concept art for the film appeared online recently. It depicts some artist’s rendering of what the new and improved Gort might look like. The director of the film, Scott Derrickson, has said in the past that Gort wouldn’t be exactly the same as in the original so I guess this is something he was considering.
However, if you check out the teaser trailer for the film you’ll actually see that Gort makes an appearance towards the end and he actually resembles the original more than he does this concept art. Go figure. Guess they decided they didn’t need to update him that much after all.
The Day the Earth Stood Still hits theaters on December 12, 2008.
