Remember when Oliver Stone used to make good movies? That was back before he decided that he’d join the Michael Moore school of filmmaking and just make a joke filled spectacle of partisan hate mongering designed more to turn elections than to entertain audiences. That was when he made movies like Platoon, Wall Street, JFK, and even Natural Born Killers that made us think he actually had something to say about the world – even if it did seem a little strange sometimes. That was before W.
I’ve already spoken my mind about the bias that will obviously play a part in this film so I don’t think I have to reiterate those points. It’s especially not necessary after actually seeing the trailer he’s made for the film.
I’ll just tell you to take a look at the preview and you can tell me if this looks like anything better than a movie of the week on basic cable.
W. is directed by Oliver Stone and stars Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Banks, Ioan Gruffudd, Thandie Newton, Ellen Burstyn, Jeffrey Wright, Richard Dreyfuss, James Cromwell, Scott Glenn, Jesse Bradford, Rob Corddry, and Toby Jones.
W. is set to hit theaters on October 17, 2008.

Stone has ALWAYS had an agenda. You don't think those movies you cited were meant to point fingers at the government or portions of society's citizenry? Hell, he thought so much of his film JFK that he wanted it shown in high school history classes.
I don't think it's any surprise or change of direction for Stone to do a movie about Bush.
Also, I don't think Stone is as good as most people do, and he certainly isn't as good as he thinks he is.
Well that was better than I thought it'd be. I thought it'd deal more with his presidency. I am sure he is doing this for political reasons ( a little late though), but I don't think it is a smear job either. What I saw was based on documented events in his past, I don't know about taking a swing at his old man though. I guess I would have to weigh it against other docudramas of other presidents who had skeletons in their closets to judge its merits. As a rule Oliver Stone movies don't do it for me and I doubt if I will see this.
Oh, I absolutely agree that he's always had an agenda. I just think that he used to at least put that agenda in an entertaining package that at least pretended to be something more. This film doesn't seem to bother to even do that.
And I think it just looks really cheesy considering it's a big budget Hollywood movie with an A-list cast.
I don't think he's as good as he thinks he is either.
I say if the movie fits, make it. Some lives just cannot washed up for the screen.
This movie is coming out only weeks before the election and Richard Dreyfuss, who hates Republicans is playing Cheney? I think this movie is going to be slightly skewed.
Perhaps Stone is saying W killed Kennedy? Thats what I'm taking away from this
Bush is not only a Democrat nightmare but also an embarrassment to Republican supporters. The housing slum and financial crisis, his failures on the border with unchekc immigration also offended many conservatives. We've got other issues like 4$ gasoline, DPRK blowing the nuke and the Iranians not far from one and the US being indebted to the Saudis and Chinese creditors, plus we've got that scandalous internal stuff like our wire-tap business. I don't care for a movie that will just bash GW Bush, its easy to throw hits at a lame duck. However it could be good if it goes on the father-son realtionship and his early career and perhaps focused on the relationship between W and HW. Let's hope McCain learns this is time to set higher standards and this not the type of film people should be making about the 44th President
