Last week I passed on a tidbit I had picked up, which a lot of you dismissed as just a funny line or coincidence, nothing more.
I’m of course talking about the line from Lucius Fox in The Dark Knight when he was asked by Bruce Wayne if this new Batman suit would stop dogs.
“No, but it will hold off cats…”
Obviously this is just a rumor right now, but it appears that quote above could have been more foreboding than initially thought.
Through various sources I found the rumored news item from a paper in Australia that says Angelina Jolie is in final negotiations to star as Catwoman in a new movie.
Apparently it is unclear whether she’d appear in the next Batman film, or as a spin-off ala Halle Berry’s mega-flop a few years back.
Julie Newmar, who played Catwoman on the original TV series back in 1966-67, had this to say about it:
“Angelina would own the part,” Newmar, now 74, said.
“My industry friends tell me she has already made enquiries about the role. I can understand how it would pique her interest. Catwoman is Batman’s one true love.
“She is tremendously popular with women because she’s both a heroine and a villainess.”
Okay, so what do you guys think if this were true? I know man of you hated the idea of Catwoman coming back, and wanted no part of it.
But isn’t Jolie the perfect actress to play the part? First off, she’s an awesome actress. Second, she’s sexy and mysterious, the perfect Catwoman.
I’m not sure about the whole Catwoman being in the next film, but if they go in that direction, who better to play Selina Kyle?
I think Angelina would make an outstanding Catwoman, and I would certainly love to see her play the part; however, I've heard that the Christopher Nolan has stated in no uncertain terms that he will not direct a Batman movie that features Catwoman. Personally, I'd rather see Ivy come back, but Catwoman is fine with me if it means I get to watch Angelina Jolie blow stuff up while wearing black spandex for an hour and a half.

1. This comes roughly the same time as the Johhny Depp/Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman/Penguin rumor.
2. Latino Review (usually very good for scoops) included this unintentionally telling comment this morning: “But what we know, right now, is that the powers that be (DC/Warner Brothers) want a strong female lead for the third Batman movie.” Interesting, since Jeff Robinov (WB Pres. of Production) said last year, “we are no longer doing movies with women in the lead.”
I'd grant that Catwoman showing up in Bats' next movie wouldn't technically make her the lead, but I still think it's an important point to consider.
Catwoman would blow, you are right Angelie as a Catwoman would not… but noone wants to see…. ok, I'll start a list, put me down as 1, I dont want to see it…
Fans are starting all of these rumors. The studio (although its a nobrainer) hasnt said another Bats movie is coming. Nolan is going to play super hardball to direct a 3rd one, and Bale isnt going to wnat to do it if he doesnt. Nolans brother would do the script again in collaboration with Chris, and as Jay had mentioned above, he stated you'll never see a Catwoman while he does it. I think they would tap something else… but right now, the net is a fire will all rumors only….
Well, first of all, Angelina would make a decent Catwoman, I think. However, I have no desire to see her in that role in a Christopher Nolan direct Batman film.
I also find it difficult to believe the rumors that the studio wants Catwoman, the Penguin, and the Riddler in the next film…weren't these characters all in the previous Batman films? Yes, they were. Why rehash what's already been done. Surely Nolan and Company can do better than that…
Agree. They can and (hopefully) will do better. We know stories with mult villians detract form a good story (previous Batmans and Spiderman 3), I dont think Nolan will let us down if he signs for another…. in previous interviews he was asked what would it take to get you to direct a 3rd Batman?!?!? He responded with “Cash… loads and loads of cash”.
I hadn't heard those rumors…not too shabby. Seems like more good casting.
Well, they already did The Joker, so why not these?
But I tend to agree…would be nice for us to see a villain who the mainstream public may not already know about.

I think Angie could do a wonderful Poison Ivy…or Harliquin (mostly unpopular) but she could own the outfits and she is good enough to act next to Bale. I am not too crazy about having another Cat woman…

Wow, she's be HOT for sure! I do look foward to another poison ivy though… she was really hot. Only reason I watch the older bat-man movies, lol.

Wouldn’t mind seeing her in a catsuit, that is for sure. I do wonder though if every batman after this one is going to be a bitter letdown after Ledgers amazing performance. He’s changed the whole genre.
I’ve heard talk of Johnny Depp playing the Riddler, he is one person who might be able to follow in Ledgers footsteps in this way.
