As we continue to progress through this historic weekend for the movie industry, the records are being knocked off by the boatload.
The Dark Knight has already given us a new box office high for an opening midnight showing, an IMAX midnight showing and now a daily total.
Friday’s box office figures reached $66.4 million, which includes the midnight and IMAX showings. The previous record held by Spiderman 3 was $59 million.
If you translate the $7 million difference over three days, using the Spiderman 3 record-total of $151 million, we could be looking at a possible $173 million take for The Dark Knight. Probably more than that.
Either way, we’re definitely going to see Spiderman 3 knocked off its pedestal this weekend.

CNN says that The Dark Knight beat Spider-Man 3's opening weekend. They announced this on Sunday morning, which is incredible, because it means there's still Sunday's performance to tally.
Now with the kind of reviews coming through from fans and critics alike, it's time to see if the thing's got legs. I'm sure it will. I'm wondering how far it's gonna go.
They were using weekend estimates that included Sunday estimates. We'll have all the final estimates up tonight or early in the morning.
