We haven’t written about The Brothers Bloom yet, which is probably why this is the first I’ve heard of it. But I’m glad I did, because it looks like it could be a uniquely funny comedy.
It’s from writer/director Rian Johnson, who brought us Brick, one of those awesome movies that no one knows about. It starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt as high school student who forces his way into an underground crime ring in order to find his missing girlfriend. It certainly is different, as the language and characters speak in an almost Shakespearean tone.
The Brothers Bloom has a stellar cast, including Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel Weisz and Rinko Kikuchi, who you might know from Babel.
Brody and Ruffalo star as two brothers who are the best con men in the world. They swindle millions of dollars with complex scenarios of lust and intrigue. They decide to take on one final job, an eccentric and beautiful heiress (Weisz) whom they whisk away on a romantic trip of a lifetime.
Obviously trailers can look great and the movie be an utter bomb, but I like what I see so far. It didn’t make laugh out loud, but I enjoyed the cast and loved the style of filming and writing.

Wow. That looks really good. Might finally be Mark Ruffalo's breakout movie, too.
I like Adrian Brody, hes an underrated actor… looks interesting
Is Mark Ruffalo still looking for a breakout? I thought he was pretty famous.
The sound isn't working for me for some reason, but seeing the part where Rachel is doing all those stunts is hilarious!
I actually had to turn my sound on for it… =)
I still think of him as more of an indy darling. Though looking at his imdb resume just now, that might just be an impression I have instead of reality at this point.
**GASP** HE WAS INDIANA JONES'S LOVE INTEREST!?!?!?!
Don't be silly. He meant the car racing circuit. Jeez.
Ohhh I like Indy car racing as opposed to that suped-up family car racing (Nascar)…
Damn this stupid system won't let me give you a point for that comment!!!
See Jase… quality comedy bud!!! =)
huh?! =D
..for it to work… unlike my fingers which do not…
Ok, so I got my sound working again (restarted the computer, genius) and it's A LOT funnier than I though it was.
