Watchmen Trailer Makes Early Debut

Mike told us yesterday that the Watchmen trailer would be premiering with the IMAX version of The Dark Knight and he was absolutely right when he said it. Not long after, however, the trailer was leaked onto the internet and now all of us can enjoy it equally.

Now this, this is how I imagine a graphic novel to look on screen! This film was directed by Zack Snyder who also directed 300, but it has none of the fake background look to it that 300 had. It just looks awesome. I think this trailer is just really good. This movie is going to be really big.

A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the “Doomsday Clock” - which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity…but who is watching the watchmen?

Watchmen stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Billy Crudup, Carla Gugino, Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley, and Matthew Goode. It is set to hit theaters on March 6, 2009.

  1. I am SO!!!!! excited about this. I was one of the people naysaying this endeavor; I felt there was no way Watchmen could be done on the big screen with a modicum of respect for the source material.

Then this trailer comes out… My god.

I think I watched it 15 times already.

  2. Better than I expected, only thing I didn't like was Billy Corrigan, and I usually like the Smashing Pumpkins.

  7. I'll just add one more time how awesome this trailer was. It gave NOTHING away, everyone looked like they should have, the sets, the vehicles, etc…all of it just FELT like the graphic novel.

I liked the music playing in the background too, but I did hear someone in the theater say it sucked, so must not appeal to everyone :)

  11. Jason, you ought to take some time and read it before it comes out…I think
it would be beneficial and also make the trailer even more awesome.

  12. Well, as you know, I'm not a huge fan of graphic novels in general. However, this might be one that would be worth reading.

  13. its a lonnngggggg read man… long…slow in places so make sure you have a nice seat cushion..

  14. You just talked me out of it.

  15. So when you say graphic novels, do you mean you don't really get into comic books in general? It's just not your thing?

  16. That didn't help :)

  17. Yeah, you know, as a kid it was always movies for me. I never read comic books for some reason. I always loved reading so I read actual books. It's nothing against comic books, I just never got in to it. I'm absolutely CERTAIN there's some brilliant stuff out there, but I never have taken the time to try to get in to anything.
