I’m not a huge Christian Slater fan by a long shot, although one of my favorite roles of his was when he played an ensign who woke up Captain Sulu in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.
Actually, he’s been in a few movies that I enjoyed, like Very Bad Things and Who Killed Cletis Tout? I think many of his fans will point to True Romance as one of their favorite Slater movies, but I’ve never seen it for some reason.
He also had some brief TV appearances early in his career, along with popping on a few shows like Alias and The West Wing.
Well, he’s returning to television this fall, but it’s as the star of this own series. My Own Worst Enemy premieres October 13th on NBC, and appears to be a cross between the Bourne Identity and Dollhouse, with a dash of Alias tossed in for flavor maybe?
On a side note, you have to realize how excited I am for a series (Dollhouse) when I’m already comparing other shows to it!
The basic plot of Worst Enemy revolves around Henry Spivey and Edward Albright, one a mild-mannered family man, the other speaks nine languages and is a trained killer.
Oh yeah, they both reside in the body of Christian Slater. The carefully kept wall between the two personalities starts to crumble resulting in chaos and uncertainty in each of these “people.”
You can watch the trailers below to get an idea of what this show is going to be like. I have to admit, I have a slight desire to check out the pilot and see where it goes. It reminds me of a little show called Journeyman that had a cool idea for a plot and then actually did something amazing with it.
The question is, can Slater revive his career and be successful on TV? Can he carry a show and create enough interest for it to be renewed.
What do you guys think? Watch the previews below and “chime” in.

You just haven't seen the right Christian Slater movies if you're not a fan. I'm sure of it. Kuffs, Heathers, definitely True Romance, and even Pump Up the Volume were all fun movies. The more he impersonates Jack Nicholson, the better his performances.
As for this…it looks cool and depends on just two things: are they going to hit the sweet spot of humorous action like Burn Notice or Chuck; can he vary his Nicholson impersonation enough so Henry and Edward come off differently.
The second clip reminds me of Total Recall, a LOT. It reminds me a little of BBC's Jekyll as well. Hopefully the whole show isn't derivative.

I hate to say it… but Christian Slater totally bugs me. Not as much as Brendan Fraser, but still… it would have to be a pretty darn good show for me to watch it. Sorry C Slater.

I like Christian Slater okay. My favorite movie of his is Young Guns II - Arkansas Dave Rudabaugh.
But I'm not sure audiences are going to go for this show. I could be wrong, but former movie stars turned TV actors isn't a new thing anymore so that's not going to help him and I think there's too many other potentially good shows this season for this to bust out.

I love it! I've always loved assassin stories, and this is my favourite kind of story - an assassin undercover!
The previews look cool … I just hope they don't botch this show up.

Porter: I agree with you about it looking like Jekyll. It seems very clearly to be an update of Jekyll and Hyde (right down to the character names), but so many of the details look like Jekyll, that I, too, am worried about it turning out to be derivative rather than inspired. (The British version, Jekyll, is well worth renting.)
