Short Fuze Limited, the award-winning Cambridge company set up to bring movie making to the world, just came out with something that I think could be really cool. They’ve just announced the first consumer release of Moviestorm, a complete software package for creating animated movies, that they’re offering for free.
Moviestorm is designed to be both easy-to-use for first time animated film makers as well as fully featured for advanced movie makers. You can actually download the software for free from their website at http://www.moviestorm.net.
What’s cool about Moviestorm is that it takes first time users through the entire movie making process from set-building, character creation and script writing to titles, credits, and editing in under fifteen minutes. When you finish you actually end up with a digital animated movie that can be uploaded to YouTube, Moviestorm’s own site, or any other video sharing site. And it can be done with a single click.
What they’ve done is create animated filmmaking for the masses. I have to admit I was pretty blown away by a few of the samples I saw on their website. The characters look a bit like people from the SIMS, but they’re capable of actually fighting and expressing emotions, and actually move their mouths along with the dialog.
Ordinarily I wouldn’t be that interested in something like this, but they make it sound so easy you almost want to get started as soon as you see what it can do. I haven’t had time to create my animated masterpiece yet, but I have downloaded the software and intend to give this thing a full test run.
The base Moviestorm pack is free and includes everything required to make a simple movie. Additional content packs, providing more costumes, sets, props and animations, are available from Moviestorm for under $20.

I have a program called The Movies. It's like the SIMS but with making your own movies etc. But it's really buggy. I wanted to make my own short films with it but it's so frustrating. If this can do what I think it can, it would be great. Thanks for posting about it.
I try to download it but most of their pages are saying Article Not Found. Weird. Sucks that it's not completely free… that would have been nice… lol

Same as Sean found, I can't download the program. This looks really promising, though. I can't wait to try it. I didn't expect to find out that it was Mac compatible, but it appears to be. I will let you know if I make anything with this later.

I found out that they are going through a server change so their trying to correct the issue.

Thanks. I'll try again later.

It's back up and running. Unfortunately I won't be able to use it. My graphics card is not up to date. For everyone else, tell me how it is.
