Six new comics this week, although two of them are on hold until I can grab a prior issue. Sadly Atomic Comics was out, so I’m going to have to figure out some way to order it online or find it at another store.
I’m currently in the middle of Y: The Last Man, Volume 9 and hope to finish that before the weekend, because I’m anxious to pick up the 10th and final chapter in this amazing saga. It’s sort of slowed down a bit here at the end because the dialogue has increased as explanations are given, but it’s still great.
Here’s my comic book haul:
I’m not afraid to try something new, especially when it comes to the first issue of a new series. This title is from BOOM! Studios, which produce a lot of horror comics based off the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Cthulhu Tales is one of their main lines, which is a legendary book for fans of Lovecraft’s stories.
The Necronomicon was an book that appeared in a lot of Lovecraft’s tales and is rumored to be filled with forbidden knowledge.
Necronomicon is a four-issue mini-series from writer Williams Messner-Loebs and Andrew Ritchie. Messner-Loebs was most famous for his work one the Wonder Woman series for DC back in the 1990s.
The cover is what drew me to it…as you can see, it’s pretty evil looking.
Nova (Secret Invasion) #16
The Cap’n says this is one of the best characters out there, so I added it to my pull list when I signed up and this is my first issue. Loving the Secret Invasion series from the little I’ve read so far, and I’m looking forward to seeing how this fits.
This is the second issue I’ve gotten and it’s the continuation of a massive battle between Superman and Atlas. Judging from the cover, Supergirl joins the fray.
Kick-Ass #3 and #4
This is the series where I’m missing #2 and therefore cannot continue until I find it. I’m drying to pick it up, because nothing but amazing things have been said about it. And obviously it’s already being made into a feature film.
The covers are awesome though, a virtual orgy of blood and decapitated head (see right).
The Amazing Spider-man (Secret Invasion) #1 of 3
This appears to be a quick mini-series in the Secret Invasion storyline. We check in out how Spidey’s friends are doing battleing the Skrulls and wonder just where the heck the web-slinger is hiding?
So what did you pick up this week?

Why do all the pictures look so scary?
“Nova (Secret Invasion) #16 - The Cap’n says this is one of the best characters out there…” would the Capn steer you wrong?!?!?! Cant happen… I need to get you the Nova Annhiliation series so you can see a bit of his background… I'll bring it for our upcoming golf outting… Nova is da man!! =)
This was a small week for me. Just Superman and Wolverine. So, I picked up “Queen and Country” volume 1. It's a series by Greg Rucka about British Spooks. Very good so far.
I've also been reading (in trades) Invincible and Fear Agent also both very good. I highly recommend all three.
Really have to agree on Q&C being very good.
Volume 1, so I assume it's a graphic novel?
What's it about and why is it so good?
Good Lord I can't remember anymore. Rucka for the most part is a good writer and its espionage type stuff dealing with MI-5. (i think). Tell you what if I can find whatever vlume I have you can read it.
Queen & Country is an excellent espionage comic. Its tone is more political and realistic rather than over-the-top action and gadgets. It's been collected in many trades, has spinoffs and original novels.
I recommend this if you are a fan of realistic genre stuff like Brubaker's Criminal, or political stuff like Wood's DMZ.
