The web series is starting to catch on, or at least that’s what NBC Universal Digital Studios is hoping for. It didn’t work too well for quarterlife (at least when it went to TV) if you recall, but this series has the backing of NBC and Sci Fi behind it.
Gemini Division stars Rosario Dawson and Justin Hartley, whom you might know if you watch Smallville and loved The Green Arrow.
We also have Francois Chau, the famous Dr. Marvin Candle from those spooky Dharma videos in Lost.
The fact that he’s in this is reason enough for me to check it out. But Hartley was also one of the brighter spots of Smallville in recent years, so I’m curious to see what he can do here.
The real question here is whether or not a web series like this can be successful. The scenes in the previews below look pretty good and have a fairly nice quality about them. Wired wrote a story about Gemini last month in which they talked about how Hollywood finally found the way to make the web pay.
This is the main plot:
Set in the not too distant future, “Gemini Division” follows NYPD vice cop Anna Diaz (Dawson) who, while searching for the truth behind her fiancée’s murder, is drawn into a secret war between a race of artificial life forms know as SIMs and the covert agency charged with hunting them down.
I’m only hoping these SIMs don’t look look like the little computer people you take care of in those games of the same name. I’m actually surprised they used that terminology to describe them…they had to know people would make the comparison.
Gemini Division will run daily for 50 episodes starting August 18th, with new webisodes premiering each week. You can see them on NBC.com, SciFi.com and various other gaming, mobile and VOD platforms.
Check out the trailers below. Does this look interesting?

I think I'll wait until they edit them altogether into one narrative and put it on a DVD which they send us for free to review.
I like the cast… but it is still hard for me to watch web series.
Sounds interesting.
