As with pretty much every movie that’s ever been a hit, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three is getting a remake. It’s one of those movies that a lot of people really haven’t seen, though. So here’s another reason to love Hulu. The original version of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three is now available for viewing for free right on Hulu.
The original version of the film involved four armed men led by Mr. Blue who hijack the NY subway train Pelham 1,2,3 and demand $1 million from city officials or a hostage gets killed every minute. It’s a tense cat and mouse game between the cops and the bad guys in the movie that surely lent inspiration to everything from Reservoir Dogs to Speed.
In the remake which should be hitting theaters next year, Denzel Washington will take on the role of Zachary “Z” Garber, which was played by Walter Matthau in the original 1974 Joseph Sargent helmed film which is hosted by Hulu. John Travolta will be playing the part of Mr. Blue which was originated in the 1974 film by Robert Shaw. James Gandolfini will play the mayor of New York City who is under incredible pressure to end the hostage crises.
The story, based on a novel by John Godey, also spawned a 1998 TV movie starring Edward James Olmos.
Why not check out the original before the remake drops and you no longer care. It should be worth your time – and, hey, it’s free.

Side note: I don't know if Hollywood could get away with a poster like that nowadays.
Watching a movie on your computer at work is a beautiful thing.
Speaking of remakes would like to see Escape From New York redone, just because the sound effects are crap. Would still use Kurt Russell as Snake Plisken, but I guess you couldn't use Isaac Hayes, or Harry Dean Stanton or Lee Van Cleef.
