Let me preface this by saying I’ve not seen Pineapple Express yet, but from what I’m hearing, it’s pretty good. First Showing called it “The best stoner comedy…ever?” And Rotten Tomatoes is showing a decent score of 67% so far.
With that being said, it really doesn’t matter to me how good this movie turns out to be. The confirmed news from James Franco that there is a sequel in the works for not only Pineapple Express, but also Superbad AND that they’ll be combined into ONE MOVIE is beyond awesome.
Judd Apatow must be jealous of what is happening over at Marvel Studios and all the Iron Man, Nick Fury and Captain America crossover goodness. I’m glad.
Here is the official quote from Franco:
“Even before ‘Superbad’ came out, I think the studio was trying to get [Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg] to write a sequel, but they really didn’t want to write a sequel. I guess the kids would go to college or something like that [that was the studio's idea],” Franco said. “And so, an answer to that was to do a ‘Superbad’/’Pineapple Express’ crossover, an unprecedented crossover movie with two directors, Greg Motolla and David Gordon Green, each directing half of the movie and somehow these characters get together, which doesn’t make sense at all, but could work.”
I’m speechless.
Okay, I’m not and you should know me better by now. This is exhilaratingly cool. Michael Cera, Johan Hill, Seth Rogan and James Franco reprising their characters in one joint venture is almost too good to be true. In fact, I’d never believe this possible if it wasn’t for the new trails that Marvel is blazing.
The only way this gets better is if McLovin’ also makes an appearance.
What do you guys think? Stupid? Awesome? Nuts? All of the above?

I have to see Pineapple Express first before I judge but if it's any good like Superbad, I think that's awesome.
Reverse for me. Have to watch Superbad :p
“each directing half of the movie and somehow these characters get together, which doesn’t make sense at all, but could work.” – so funny. Let's hope it does work tho
Two directors, crossover-movie…
Hmm. were there other crossover movies before? Not the “Marvel” type crossovers (they all belong to one universe anyway – the Marvel Universe).
Yeah, might be a good way to judge it.
