We’ve got word from ComingSoon.net that Vin Diesel will be directing a 20 minute prequel to Fast and Furious, the fourth film in the semi-popular franchise series.
Diesel spilled the news during an interview that he would star in the prequel along with Michelle Rodriguez who would be reprising her role as Letty from the first film. Sung Kang will also be reprising his role as Han from the third film. Diesel did not say how the prequel would premiere or how it would be distributed (DVD, online, TV, etc.).
Fast and Furious, the upcoming fourth film in the series will be a sequel to the first film. However, Diesel had a cameo in the third film as well so there’s a chance this prequel could possibly tie together some of the events from all four movies. At this point we really just don’t know.
Fast and Furious is set to open on June 5, 2009.

He's actually directed before. He directed and starred in a short film that Spielberg saw which led to him getting cast in Saving Private Ryan. He also did a couple of other movies.

I'd have to assume that the prequel would be an internet deal to promote the 4th movie. Might be fun. If the prequel/4th movie are close to as good as the first, it would be worth seeing.
