Richard – good write-up. I think this was a solid episode and I thought it was great that they left us on a cliff-hanger. It will be interesting to see how things shake down once the season returns. Looks like Michael has a true nemesis in Carla, so that should help keep the show moving forward in the upcoming season.

Wow… a good episode to go out on.

Initially I was disappointed when Michael took yet another job just as the Carla/sniper storyline was coming to a head. However, the writers balanced both plots nicely and I was impressed with the pacing of this episode and the mixture of slower character interaction with the well-done action sequences.

At this point I have no idea if: 1) Carla really wants Michael dead as he's getting too close to her operation; 2) she’s still playing him and, despite the bomb, still wants him alive for future ops; or 3) Carla's boss/partner (“the supreme overlords” as Sam put it) planted the bomb to tie up all the loose ends and possibly Carla wasn’t even aware of it.

I’m not sure what that perplexed look on Carla's face meant after Michael slide under the semi truck. Was it truly defeat? Was Carla playing the decoy because she knew something big was happening and didn't want Michael involved (or back at his apartment)? Was the entire chase with Carla and her goons in pursuit a ruse? Did the “supreme overlords” figure out that Michael was aware of the operation and they decided to cancel it and go into cleanup mode by taking out all the pieces involved? Who knows.

A lot of questions and a few months until we get some answers.

Richard, thanks for all the recaps and the actual meaning of Proverbs 27:17. That was a very touching scene when Fi and Michael maintained eye contact as he spoke into the phone while the soft musical score played. Very nice.

Lastly, one more Sam quote/exchange I liked:

Michael: “Hey, go easy on the Mojitos.”
Sam: “They go easy on me.”

Hi Richard, much enjoyed your take on the episode.

The part about the Proverbs quote I found especially interesting. I have to say that I don't entirely agree with your analysis that it was actually referring to the previous verse (although as a mutli-layer reference it is very cool, it is much too oblique to be picked up by the average, or even above-average viewer).

I went back and watched the scene again, just because I found your take so intriguing. I think the key is that as Michael is delivering the Proverbs quote he doesn't look up and make eye contact with Fiona until he starts the “That’s you and me. You showed me the way…” part of the speech. I see it is an expression of the same sentiment expressed in the classic “As Good As It Gets” line; “You make me want to be a better man”.

Fun finale, lots of good stuff here. I'm really starting to love those subtle scenes with Michael and Fiona…the little hints of what is still there, or the hints at what is gone.

Curious about how much of the spying on Carla was real and what was a set-up. I think they must have somehow figured it out once they found out he was on the 4th floor and then changed their plans.

Nice to see Nate back in the episode, if only to play the fall guy at the end.

That proverb makes more sense to me if I paraphrase it to:
As iron shapes iron, you so shape others.
