Back in early July, I passed on news to you guys that Mark Millar, author of Wanted, War Heroes, 1985 and a host of other comics, told some people that he had a real idea for rebooting the Superman franchise.
And it was welcomed news, at least to me. The franchise is essentially dead in my eyes, as the last installment did nothing but enact a “ho-hum” from me. There had to be someone out there with a bigger and better idea, someone who could do what Christopher Nolan has done with Batman.
Well, Millar spoke to G4 the other day and gave a brief outline of what he had in mind. And it’s not just one movie, but an entire trilogy that he has planned.
“I’ve had this plan for like 10 years for a big three-picture Superman thing, like a Lord of the Rings epic, starting over from scratch again with a seven-hour Superman story. One to be released each year.” Millar said.
As we knew before, Millar has a “big name” already set as the director, but wont reveal it yet. But he told G4 that as long as the planned sequel to Superman Returns, dubbed Man of Steel, goes away, he could start filming by next summer.
He said that they would know more in a few weeks.
Interesting? What do you guys think? I’m completely up for something, ANYTHING that takes this tired franchise and breathes some life into it. Of course, we have no idea as to the real plot of the trilogy, so perhaps I’m jumping the gun, but I somehow doubt it.

More Superman story (ok , well any superheros) are of course good for the Cap'n!
Millar could do a good job,a dn could be highly interesting to see how his story works out… and would they keep brandon Routh as Superman?
They aren't going to keep Brandon Routh as Superman… not if they know what's good for them. Sorry Cap'n.
They'd better not
[...] a Superman Movie is probably his main mission in life. Millar even shares that he has an idea for a Superman Trilogy epic for 10 years now was pitching it to Warner even prior to Superman Returns. So what’s stopping [...]
Actually, it seems as if they will be keeping on Routh. Very good move on WB’s part.
I just don’t think Superman lends itself well to good stories. First of all, he is way too powerful and can do anything and everything. That’s boring. What’s his weakness? Kryptonite? You can only have so many stories involving Kryptonite, then it gets boring. He’s boring.
Who’s his biggest enemy? Lex Luthor? Just a normal guy? So, the most powerful superhero’s main villain is Lex Luthor? Boring!
Batman is interesting because he’s human. Spiderman is moderately powerful, but has loads of interesting enemies, and he’s a likeable dude. X-men have a lot of stories because of all their interesting abilities.
Superman is just lame, always has been at the movies. The comics are better for some reason.
