It’s starting to look like J.J. Abrams may have yet another hit television show under his belt after the second episode of Fringe took a huge bounce in the ratings just a week after the premiere episode.
Fringe managed to pull in 9.1 million viewers when it premiered on Sunday, September 7, but the second episode which premiered this past Tuesday jumped 45% and pulled in 13.2 million viewers. Jumps like that seldom happen to television shows since most people who are interested in the show usually watch the premiere episode.
I’m assuming much of the bounce can probably be attributed to good word of mouth and the fact that Fox smartly re-aired the premiere episode just two days before the second episode aired. People who watched the first episode when it originally premiered told their friends and spread the word and many more people watched it when it re-aired a week later. Adding to the effect was a nice lead in from the Fox hit, House, which has always done well in the ratings (although House was actually down from last year’s premiere).
The big question will be whether Fringe (and House) will be able to build on the momentum and continue to maintain and possibly build an audience as more shows premiere on other networks and the competition becomes more fierce.

I still have the pilot and 2nd episode recorded but havent watched them yet….I hope I watch them before I get uninterested….
You need to go home and watch them tonight! Seriously this is a good show. I'm not always a huge sci-fi guy, but I really am digging this show.
We just finally watched the pilot episode last night. We dig it!
