It seems as if there were only a handful of viewers watching this show in the U.S., but as one of them I'm sad to see it go, especially knowing that I'll likely never see another season– or, for that matter, a Region 1 DVD. And even though it's been a bit tough following such a complex, and often brilliant, program with no one to discuss it with (none of my friends or family were interesting in keeping up on a show that airs at 1 AM on Monday morning here), I'm glad I did. It was a rewarding experience; and you don't get many of those from a TV show. It has a remarkable visual style, excellent dialogue, an unapologetically complex (if sometimes confusing) plotline, a dense mythology, and some of the most fascinating character development I've ever seen (someone could write a thesis on 01 Boxer's behavior and motivations). I really enjoyed this show, and I just think it's a shame that there's room enough on television for 3 incarnations of “CSI” but no audience for something as novel and thought-provoking as “Charlie Jade.”

I've watched this series about four times completely now. I never picked up on the fact that Charlie 'evolved' to travel without water.

I found 01's comment regarding Charlie being the only one who can travel facinating. I'm not sure about the timeline in the show. If Charlie is important to Brian Boxer, why wouldn't Brian 'employ' or keep Charlie safe? I'm inclined to think that it might have been a Filipowich adlib.

Supposedly there were scripts written for Season 2, or at least outlines. I hope someone finds a way to give an idea of how the show could end.

    re: ending
What's with the three portal? Shouldn't there only be two? Does the third one loop back to a scenic overview of Cape Town? I keep wondering where the exits of the portals should be…

Want to thank the Producers, Writers, Directors and Composers for putting together such a unique series. I can't think of a show that's like it on tv.

Yeah, I didn't pick up on that either. That was from Wertheimer's episode commentary. Should have seen it, but didn't.

And Bryon actually *did* employ Charlie for at least a little while. My guess is that he was always keeping an eye on Charlie but letting him think he was a free operator.

I was as befuddled by the loop-back portal as you. I suspect that was an error – a cool looking one – in post.

Thanks so much for your recap and perspective Richard. Your insight helps pull together the disjointed scenes resulting from Charlie's jumbled memories and time displacement.

Putting last first, I'd have to go with a loop back portal for the third tunnel, too–and an opening for Charlie & Boxer 01 to not be trapped in a virtually suspended animation of linkspace indefinitely (this is the offshoot of Gammaverse that we were warned about?).

Charlie Jade ends on a note to rival it's beginning for those of us who have followed along. If we were lulled into a false sense of security by becoming adept at following the verse jumps and intermingled plot lines this last episode of Season 1 reassures us that there is plenty we didn't catch and could never have anticipated.

Visually stunning & unpredictable as it is thought provoking, the ending of the Charlie Jade series leaves me to wonder if it's own uniqueness was ultimately it's downfall on SciFi by not adhering to formulaic plot lines served up for mass consumption. It was never “their” series and I'm only left with the feeling that relegating it to the 3 am time slot was the final act of contempt for a series that pushed boundaries and required serious thinking on the part of it's viewers. That in and of itself is a sad commentary. What more could they say? “Crap, you're making the rest of our programming look like a bunch of tripe?”

I hope if the series goes to DVD in our region we will be able to meet together and finally discuss all of the elements that could have resulted in too many spoilers. I still have so many questions!

Thanks again for your kind and thoughtful meanderings and outreach to the Charlie Jade diaspora, Richard. So very much appreciated.

Thank you, Elfie. I've enjoyed your comments along the way.

Don't forget to keep checking Charliejade.net; there's going to be some more podcasts to come on top of the episode commentaries, and if any news about a region 1 dvd or a new lease on life comes up, you'll see it there.

Also, keep coming back to Pop Critics. It's a bit slow around here right now, but should be picking up steam again shortly.

Finally, my own personal plug…please come on over to Dreamloom.com for even more TV recaps, reviews and analysis from me in the future.

I finally watched the episode for the first time last night. And yes, I need to re-watch it as my head is still spinning for what I witnessed.

As almost like a big FU to the small group of fans that followed the show to 3am, Sci-Fi really butchered the airing of this final episode here on the west coast. It began almost 5-minutes early (around 2:56am) and was cut to pieces with additional commercial breaks starting in completely inappropriate moments during the show (plus the regular breaks). Good thing I set my DVR to over-record the hour. I was pretty pissed and, naturally, confused so it may take multiple viewings before I fully understand and appreciate the ending.

Please, someone… anyone, get this show out on DVD!

    More soon.
