This announcement comes with a caveat, as most do. If your computer sucks, like mine, skip the rest of this post. If you still want to see what it’s all about, feel free to read on, but don’t blame me for the inevitable disappointment that follows.
If you are a DirecTV PLUS HD DVR user, then there is a brand new toy available to you free of charge. It’s called DIRECTV2PC, which means (if you don’t know that 2 = to) you can now watch shows off your DVR right there on your PC computer screen.
How does it work? You visit this link, download a tool that checks to see if your computer is compatible with the technology and then if it is, you can download the actual program.
I downloaded the analysis tool and I had too many red dots appear which meant my little 1.7ghz laptop connected wirelessly that is perfect for a guy who does almost everything online, is NO GOOD.
Suckfest.
However, I went ahead and downloaded the actual DIRECTV2PC application and installed it. The program found my DVR on my home network and quickly I was able to browse my playlist as if I were looking at the DVR itself (see screenshot up top). Pretty awesome.
Of course when I tried to play a show, it wouldn’t work. The video just stalled and was all snowy.
Maybe you’ll have better luck?
Remember, you need to make sure your DVR is already ON your local home network for any of this to work.

Did everyone see how much we had taped/taping last night. I think that doesn't even include Smallville? The computer probably saw the list and decided it didn't even want to try!
Yeah…they don't have this available for Mac. All that means is that my awesome computer needs to wait for the boneheads at DirecTV to catch up with the real technology…
Cause Smallville RAWKED last night!!! Finally!
Yeah it did
Yeah, it seems like an application like that would run slowly. When I watch TV directly in my browser, like on websites and such, it goes fine, but with an application, I could see things going slowly.
