The Incredibles no competition there :-)

  2. Dadofiandi

I have to go with Nightmare Before Christmas, love stop action stuff from the old Christmas classics. First movie I saw with my wife and my 6yr likes it too.

  3. Cary Scott

    1. The Incredibles
    2. Wall-E
    3. Ratatouille
    4. Shrek
    5. Nightmare Before Christmas
    6. Toy Story
    7. Cars
    8. South Park
    9.Waking Life
    10. Persepolis

Sorry, couldn’t limit it to just one.

  4. Justin Tadlock

Well, it looks like we have two votes for The Incredibles. I would also place Nightmare Before Christmas pretty high on the list.

  5. Sucharith

Mine would be The Incredibles, followed by Ratatouille and Cars !

    1. Justin Tadlock

Ratatouille is another movie I have to check out sometime. Cars was also a pretty good movie.

  6. tinym

    Mine is A Bug’s Life

  7. Justin Tadlock

I guess no one else is showin’ the love for The Land Before Time.

  8. dinu

    Kunfu Panda !!

  9. Cap'n Schwartz

    I’d have to say 1) Appleseed 2) RoboTech-Shadow Chronicles 3) Gotham Knight 4) Incredibles 5) Titan A.E.

Wizards by Ralph Bakshi – Came out in 1977. Psychedelic /Post Apocalyptic/Fantasy. A crazy movie I like to dust off and watch every couple of years.

Runner Up – Monsters Inc. – Always makes me laugh.

    1. Justin Tadlock

I’ll have to check out Wizards sometime. I’ve never seen it.

  11. Sajid Iqbal

For me Finding Nemo was awesome. I really enjoyed that movie. I am big fan of animated movies, and I watch all that are released in 3D versions.

  12. John

Incredibles for me – wonder if there will be an Incredibles 2?

    1. Justin Tadlock

      One can only hope…

I’m a big, big fan of Pixar films. I’ve long said that I’d take a job sweeping floors if it meant I could get a job there… And as brilliant as those guys are visually and with crafting stories with characters that you can readily and easily care about, I’m convinced that Pixar’s hidden talent is in somehow finding the perfect people to lend the voices to their on-screen wizardry.

But this time of year, my heart always grows fond with nostalgic childhood memories of the animated Peanuts specials that are usually aired on one of the big 3 TV channels. I know, I know, those aren’t movies, but still, they’re worth mentioning. There was a gentle insightfulness to those that has no contemporary match.

Wow, some really great answers here! Nightmare Before Christmas is definitely up there for me, but I must admit, I love the Disney Princess Movies and of those I think Beauty and the Beast is my all-time favorite. But the Little Mermaid is a close second and I love Ariel because she’s a redhead like me. =)

    1. Justin Tadlock

I’m a huge fan of Beauty and the Beast as well. I think that’s the one movie I’ve owned on VHS, downloaded and burnt onto a CD-ROM, and have on DVD. It’s one of those classics that I’ll always own in some form or fashion.

  15. JEff

I would have to say Aladdin is my favorite.

    1. AC

OH yeah! Forgot about Aladdin. Awesome movie. So much better than Toy Story and Finding Nemo, and all that 3D stuff.

      1. Bender

Many would say Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were Rabbit or Chicken Run over Aladdin.

  16. Mac Jones

I love Monsters Inc – there are so many subtle jokes and details in there I spot something new each time I see it. I think it’s just as much for adults as children!

  17. Brice

I hadn’t watched animated movies in ages and I didn’t think I would like them anymore. I changed my mind when I watched Ratatouille and Nemo recently. I loved them both! I didn’t see Wall-E though, but now that I read that post, I’ll definitely check it out…

I have to distinguish between the different animation types, because their genre’s tend to be so different.

For traditional, kiddy animation, my favorite is The Lion King. Best Disney cartoon.

For claymation, Nightmare Before Christmas. I am absolutely fascinated by claymation.

For adult animation, South Park. Just way too funny.

I’ve never been that much of a fan of the new, Pixar, 3D animation. But if I had to choose one, I guess it would be Monsters, Inc. I almost hate this 3D stuff. It doesn’t have the personality of the traditional cartoons. The stories all seem the same to me, and I feel like the animation overwhelms the story. I feel claymation is infinitely better than 3D. Actually, there’s a LOT of personality in claymation for some reason. I don’t know. I know I’m in the minority here.

    1. Bender

As far as toons are concerned comedy is king and that comes up in a lot of CGI or Stop Motion animated movies.

Which explains why a lot of the disney canon isn’t as popular as they once were, as in those days for toons, musical was king.

Also you get well known celebrities filling out main roles in toons. The problem with the disney canon is that Walt let any old stray take the voices, not celebrities.

  19. Glenn

    Old school: Jungle Book

    Modern ani for kids: Ratatouille

Modern ani for adults: Waking Life

    1. Bender

      I can top that:

Old School: Fritz the Cat (X-Rated)

Modern ani for kids: Madagasgar franchise (Cute animals)

Modern ani for adults: Waltz with the Bashir

  20. leigh

    Madagascar!
I’ve never Wall-E is a film. i thought it is a PSP game.(i have it on my PSP.)

  21. MelHart

If I start naming my favorites, I’ll probably end up with a very long list… but if I have to choose just one then I guess it will be Titan A.E.
I’m not exactly a big fan of 3D animation. I like the traditional way better… ^_^

    1. Bender

3D animation is actually just new in the form of Monsters vs Aliens.

    2. Zoidberg

If by traditional you mean Stop Motion (Nightmare Before Christmas) over CGI (Madagasar), then you’re maybe right on.

  22. Amber

The Iron Giant and The Lion King.

Also, Melhart, I agree with you. ;)

  23. LBUGtv

The Lion King is great, so was Bambi. But Animal Farm is well worth a look, even though it’s ugly.

  24. Bender

    Here’s my big 3
    1. Beavis and Butthead Do America.
I think if that movie didn’t come out we probably woudn’t have had The Spongebob Squarepants Movie, Wallace and Gromit in tThe Curse of the Were Rabbit, Family Guy presents Stewie Griffin: Untold Story, Futurama DVDs, Pokemon film franchise, The Simpsons Movie or South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut.
    2. The Simpsons Movie
Chief Wiggum with the donuts on his gun did it for me.
    3. South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
Best songs in an animated movie including Uncle Fukka, Kyles Mom, Blame Canada, I can change and What would Brian Boitaito do?

Is there an animated movie with better songs out there? Probably Not!

  25. rft

Well its hard to tell really.
Wall-e was really awesome in a very different way. The romance, the comedy – it all had a different touch.
My other favorites are – The Simpsons Movie, Ice Age, Shrek, Southpark (man that is wickedly funny) and Madagascar (I am totally surprised no one mentioned it, that was great to watch, especially the Penguin trio).
