It’s been a very, very long time since I’ve had anything positive to say about Smallville. Usually the last three seasons were peppered with only one or two solid episodes, while the rest were just below average writing and stories.
But now, in what could be their final season, the show has rocketed into the stratosphere and right back into my top series on television. At least, while Lost and BSG are on hiatus.
Everything has been superb. The slow, dark, mysterious developing story with Davis becoming Doomsday was simply brilliant. The casting of Sam Witwer (from BSG) was perfection.
The romance of Lois and Clark has even been wonderful. Gone are the days of Lana Lang and the perpetual annoyance she caused amongst fans of the show. Last night’s midseason finale was so beautiful with the dance between Lois and Clark, her revelation to Oliver that she’s into Clark…and the hug at the end.
Never thought they could somehow make me picture those two together, but now I do.
Heck, even Lana appearing last night turned out great. The Cloverfield-spoofed opening was slick. And Chloe was ultra-cute in that wedding gown.
And how about that ending with Lex stuck with tubes and pipes? Goooosseee bumps!
I honestly can’t think of another season of Smallville that I’ve enjoyed as much as this one. Every single week is fantastic and I look forward to watch it LIVE even, not on commercial-skipping-TIVO delay.
I’m truly bummed as heck that it wont return until January 15th.

I’m right there with you. This has been one of the best seasons yet. I’m actually watching on the day it’s released instead of a few days later or from Tivo (what I have been doing for the last few seasons).
I don’t know if I completely feel the Lois and Clark vibe just yet though. Well, not from Clark’s side.
Yeah, I’m not saying I “feel” it like I can see Clark likes her yet, but I think what I mean is that I can visualize them together now, whereas before she always seemed too goofy or too different for them to mesh well.
But they’ve done a good job bringing them together.
More scenes needed at the Smallville Hospital though.
Mike spot on bud…. this season has been great (maybe minus the summoned kissing princess episode…) last night was ROCKIN…. really a great episode, best one to date!!!
I’ll agree with you the Lois and clark story/romance is great, and really well done so far… cant believe we have to wait till Jan 15th for a new one!
I can’t wait to see this final season. I have watched all the seasons on DVD and have enjoyed the story and characters for a long time. I usually hold the optinion that Smallville is under rated, but I saw a preview of this season last night and I thought it was looking top notch again! I am glad to hear from you all that the season is going great! I’ll look forward to seeing it on DVD when it comes out!
I agree with most of it. I for one will not be very happy if this turns out to be Smallvilles last season. They spend so much time getting to the point when Clark finally become the super hero (Superman) it would be a shame end it with season 8; I think we should get 1 to 2 more season of Smallville after Clark becomes Superman.
I’d pretty much given up on this to be honest. Maybe I should give it another chance.
I think that they said early on that they were not going to do that (get to the full Superman phase). At least they said “He will never fly on Smallville,” which pretty much means no Supes.
Though he keeps coming so close to flying, and it’s gotten so that every freakin’ Kryptonian around him can do it that it makes you wonder if he’s mentally challenged or something.
I personally think Tom Welling has more charisma than Brandon Routh.
I would surely miss Lana aka Kristen… Clark and Lana look soo good together.
