What’s your favorite animated film?

WALL-E

I was itching to buy a movie on DVD earlier this week because I hadn’t purchased one in some time. During my nearly year-and-a-half stay in South Korea, I was downloading movies (yes, I was a criminal for a while).

Any movie I would’ve bought in Korea would’ve been stolen anyway.

WALL-E came out on DVD this week, and it was one of those movies that I got to watch with weird squiggly lines on it because someone can’t capture video in a theater correctly.

But, it made me just a little bit excited about animated films again.

I was a little over the Disney/Pixar craze a while back, but WALL-E was an enjoyable movie.

So, I dropped the $14.95 at Wal-Mart for it.

What’s your all-time favorite?

There are loads to choose from, and I expect some interesting answers.

OK. So you wanna know my favorite, don’t you? It’s The Land Before Time.

The first one.

Littlefoot’s mom dying chokes me up every time I see it. I feel no shame in saying that either. I also happened to find it on DVD a few years back for around $5.

  1. The Incredibles no competition there :-)

  2. I have to go with Nightmare Before Christmas, love stop action stuff from the old Christmas classics. First movie I saw with my wife and my 6yr likes it too.

  3. 1. The Incredibles
    2. Wall-E
    3. Ratatouille
    4. Shrek
    5. Nightmare Before Christmas
    6. Toy Story
    7. Cars
    8. South Park
    9.Waking Life
    10. Persepolis

Sorry, couldn’t limit it to just one.

  4. Well, it looks like we have two votes for The Incredibles. I would also place Nightmare Before Christmas pretty high on the list.

  5. Mine would be The Incredibles, followed by Ratatouille and Cars !

    1. Ratatouille is another movie I have to check out sometime. Cars was also a pretty good movie.

  6. Mine is A Bug’s Life

  7. I guess no one else is showin’ the love for The Land Before Time.

  8. Kunfu Panda !!

  9. I’d have to say 1) Appleseed 2) RoboTech-Shadow Chronicles 3) Gotham Knight 4) Incredibles 5) Titan A.E.

  10. Wizards by Ralph Bakshi - Came out in 1977. Psychedelic /Post Apocalyptic/Fantasy. A crazy movie I like to dust off and watch every couple of years.

Runner Up - Monsters Inc. - Always makes me laugh.

    1. I’ll have to check out Wizards sometime. I’ve never seen it.

  11. For me Finding Nemo was awesome. I really enjoyed that movie. I am big fan of animated movies, and I watch all that are released in 3D versions.

  12. Incredibles for me - wonder if there will be an Incredibles 2?

    1. One can only hope…

  13. I’m a big, big fan of Pixar films. I’ve long said that I’d take a job sweeping floors if it meant I could get a job there… And as brilliant as those guys are visually and with crafting stories with characters that you can readily and easily care about, I’m convinced that Pixar’s hidden talent is in somehow finding the perfect people to lend the voices to their on-screen wizardry.

But this time of year, my heart always grows fond with nostalgic childhood memories of the animated Peanuts specials that are usually aired on one of the big 3 TV channels. I know, I know, those aren’t movies, but still, they’re worth mentioning. There was a gentle insightfulness to those that has no contemporary match.

  14. Wow, some really great answers here! Nightmare Before Christmas is definitely up there for me, but I must admit, I love the Disney Princess Movies and of those I think Beauty and the Beast is my all-time favorite. But the Little Mermaid is a close second and I love Ariel because she’s a redhead like me. =)

    1. I’m a huge fan of Beauty and the Beast as well. I think that’s the one movie I’ve owned on VHS, downloaded and burnt onto a CD-ROM, and have on DVD. It’s one of those classics that I’ll always own in some form or fashion.

  15. I would have to say Aladdin is my favorite.

    1. OH yeah! Forgot about Aladdin. Awesome movie. So much better than Toy Story and Finding Nemo, and all that 3D stuff.

  16. I love Monsters Inc - there are so many subtle jokes and details in there I spot something new each time I see it. I think it’s just as much for adults as children!

  17. I hadn’t watched animated movies in ages and I didn’t think I would like them anymore. I changed my mind when I watched Ratatouille and Nemo recently. I loved them both! I didn’t see Wall-E though, but now that I read that post, I’ll definitely check it out…

  18. I have to distinguish between the different animation types, because their genre’s tend to be so different.

For traditional, kiddy animation, my favorite is The Lion King. Best Disney cartoon.

For claymation, Nightmare Before Christmas. I am absolutely fascinated by claymation.

For adult animation, South Park. Just way too funny.

I’ve never been that much of a fan of the new, Pixar, 3D animation. But if I had to choose one, I guess it would be Monsters, Inc. I almost hate this 3D stuff. It doesn’t have the personality of the traditional cartoons. The stories all seem the same to me, and I feel like the animation overwhelms the story. I feel claymation is infinitely better than 3D. Actually, there’s a LOT of personality in claymation for some reason. I don’t know. I know I’m in the minority here.

  19. Old school: Jungle Book

    Modern ani for kids: Ratatouille

Modern ani for adults: Waking Life

  20. Madagascar!
I’ve never Wall-E is a film. i thought it is a PSP game.(i have it on my PSP.)
