Another must see summer movie with Adam Sandler is going big in theaters now. Funny and crazy all in the same roll. Sandler has step up a notch compared to his older movies.

I had the pleasure of watching Grownups this past weekend and I will say that it could fall as one of my funniest movies I have seen this summer. If family humor and comedy is your treat in a movie this movie will keep you laughing the whole way through.

The good thing is about this show it has been in theaters a while now and most of us may have already seen it. With stars like Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, and David Spade, you can’t go wrong in a hit smash summer comedy.

It all starts with 5 kids learning from their favorite coach in basketball and leading into their today style lives. They take their families to the coaches funeral and then head out to the lake for the fourth of July where they then spread their great coaches ashes on a stranded island.

Bring the five guys together brings back some memories for them. Some turn off rich and some turn out broke. One married 3 or 4 times and ends up with a woman twice his age. he would be the one that turns out to have the most beautiful daughters in the world. But also he would be the one to have one single daughter that turns out to be not so beautiful as well.

Changing their lives in many ways has taught them how they use to be when they were kids growing up and being the only team that their dead coach had won a basketball championship with. I have to say that I never was like them when I was growing up.

This movie want bring any tears to your eyes unless you start crying due to the laughing and giggling. I rate it a 5 star movie as one of the best Adam Sandler movies made today. I will not lead you into anymore sides of this movie but will leave you with the fact that you may want to see it for yourself. Just watch the trailer and judge it for your own thoughts of mind.

Director: Dennis Dugan
Writer: Adam Sandler & Robert Smigel
Genre: Comedy/Action

Story

Zohan Dvir (Adam Sandler) is seemingly the best assassin/anti-terrorist fighter in his country, but he wants to leave that life and become a hair dresser. He decides to move to America and become just that and along the way meets some terrorists who vow to kill him. Also, he struggles to get a job as a hair dresser and when he finally does he makes the failing salon he works for become the most popular place in town. The popularity does bring unwanted attention to himself and his employer though.

Everything Else

The directing was not up to par with a well made witty comedy, but it is perfect for the filth presented in Zohan. Zohan fails to get away from the immature sex jokes and crude humor that apparently Sandler and Smigel thought up. Dennis Dugan should be ashamed to shoot such a pointless and tasteless film and Sandler knows better.

Rob Schneider is exactly the guy I would expect to see in a film like this and he plays his part as a terrorist quite well. John Turturro also does well here, but all of the actors have found themselves in a poorly made movie. Some of the comedy is spot on and will have you rolling out of your seat, but then they mix embarrassing and gross humor into it that completely negates the comic genius you were just presented.

The Real Deal

If you like the gross comedies out there, then this is perfect for you. If on the other hand you are looking for something that has a little more class and is actually well made then I would steer clear of this one. Adam Sandler seems to be a hit and miss kind of actor/writer these days; you never know which way he is going to turn. The basic concept of Zohan was great, but the execution was almost unbearable.

David’s Score: 4/10

Jason wrote a few months ago about Judd Apatow’s next project, which was to include Sandler and Seth Rogan, along with Leslie Mann.

It sounded good then, just to dream about Sandler possibly doing something great with a guy who knows how to write funny movies.

We’re now getting the basic plot of the film: A dramedy about the life of stand-up comics.

According to First Showing, Apatow started doing stand-up in his final year of high school, met Adam Sandler and then learned that he could write a better joke than he could tell it.

I like the idea of this film, which Sandler tells MTV is “very, very funny”:

“There is a lot of stuff going on in the move that is pretty heartbreaking.” He also adds that, “it’s very, very funny. [Me and] my friends who have read the script, all of us were baffled how funny it is.”

Apatow added:

“It’s a comedy, but it has more drama in it. A hilarious drama is what I’m going for,” Apatow said. “Every movie, I’m trying to find a way to go deeper, to tell stories about subjects that are important and make them less and less broad while making them equally as funny. [This film is] another step in that progression.

On another note, Eric Bana has been approached by Apatow to co-star in the film alongside Sandler.

For those of you looking for Sandler to finally have that great comedy, this could be the one. What do you think? Do Apatow and Sandler sound like a winning combo?

So tomorrow we get the latest comedy from Adam Sandler called You Don't Mess with the Zohan, and I really have no idea if it will be good or not. I've laughed at a few of the trailers, but overall, I'm not really busting down any doors to get to the theater.

It just got me thinking about how Sandler has made some great movies, but lately they've just fallen flat. I miss the old days when I used to look forward to his next film, so I decided to compile a quick Top 5 list of my favorite Adam Sandler movies.

I’ve laughed at a few of the trailers, but overall, I’m not really busting down any doors to get to the theater.

It just got me thinking about how Sandler has made some great movies, but lately they’ve just fallen flat. I miss the old days when I used to look forward to his next film, so I decided to compile a quick Top 5 list of my favorite Adam Sandler movies.

And the fifth one was actually hard to come up with. I almost went with a Top 4, but it just sounded ridiculous.

So here we go!

My Top 5 Adam Sandler Movies

#5 – Tie between Big Daddy and The Waterboy.

I really thought these were just okay, but I remember laughing pretty hard at The Waterboy. I think if I were to just come up with Sandler movies that were “favorites”, neither of these would be on that list. But they were both decent and funny, and I needed to round out the Top 5.

#4 – Punch Drunk Love

Now I don’t recall much about this movie, it came out in 2002 and I’ve never seen it a second time, but I DO remember being very impressed with Sandler’s work in a film that was more of a romantic drama than a comedy. At the time I thought it was a very, very good movie.

#3 – Spanglish

Another turn with the drama instead of outright comedy, Spanglish was a fun little movie in which Sandler wasn’t necessarily the star, but his role as a father and husband who starts to fall for his housekeeper was fantastic. It was an overall great movie anyways, with awesome acting by Tea Leoni, Paz Vega and especially Cloris Leachman.

The scenes at the end with Leachman trying to comfort and give advice to Leoni was absolutely brilliant.

#2 – Happy Gilmore

In my opinion, the greatest comedy Sandler ever did was Happy Gilmore. It was funny from the start and had so many great moments that you lost track of them. Bob Barker especially was hilarious, but stuff like fighting with alligators, rhyming with Shooter, Ben Stiller’s role as the nursing home “warden” and others were just perfect.

It’s a Sandler movie that I’ll end up watching anytime I see it on.

#1 – 50 First Dates

Don’t ask me exactly why it appeals to me so much, but 50 First Dates is my all-time favorite Adam Sandler movie. I think it’s the story itself that made the film what it was. Yeah, there was goofiness all over the place, which is typical of a Sandler picture, but there was such a warm, heartfelt story at the center of it.

Drew Barrymore has recurring amnesia from a car accident, and can’t remember anything that happened the day before. Everytime she wakes up in the morning, it’s the same day for her. And it’s been going on for years.

So Sandler meets her, falls in love but has to work through the fact that she can’t remember him the next day. Or can she?

Like I said…I just really love the plot of this film. The way she wakes up everyday having to learn it all over again…it was just beautiful. Inside this little romantic comedy was a great message about being dedicated to someone no matter what.

What about you?

What are your favorite Adam Sandler movies?

I know there is a huge liking for Billy Madison and The Wedding Singer, and they would probably have been good ones for my list, but I never saw The Wedding Singer and don’t remember much about Madison.

So do you agree with my list? What are your top 5 ?

Today, we bring you the official full length trailer of the film.

This trailer is much more action packed than the teaser trailer that came out some months ago. It actually looks pretty funny although it’s still pretty hard to picture Adam Sandler as either a tough Israili commando or a sexually confused hairdresser wanna-be.

Variety is reporting that Judd Apatow has agreed to do what no one thought could be done – direct Adam Sandler in a funny movie again.

Apatow has tapped Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann to star in the next comedy he’ll direct. The untitled film will be a co-production of Universal Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment with production to start in late summer or early fall.

Apatow is the sole writer on the project and is keeping the plot under tight wrap. Whatever he comes up with it’s gotta be funnier than Chuck and Larry…

Sandler next appears in You Don’t Mess with the Zohan which was actually written by Apatow and Sandler and is set for release on June 6, 2008.

I came across this trailer today and said, “Self, that was pretty funny”.

Then I went to IMDB (the haven for movie buffs) to research it a bit and I saw this:

“Written by Adam Sandler AND Judd Apatow.”

The next thing I said was “Self, if Judd Apatow is involved in this, it possibly could be the best Adam Sandler movie ever.”

Self agreed with me and so here we are. The movie is called “You don’t mess with the Zohan” and the plot summary is stranger than anything you probably could come up with on your own, even if you had all day to think and sniffed plenty of glue the night before.

A Mossad agent fakes his death so he can re-emerge in New York City as a hair stylist.

Yeah, Sandler plays almost a super-awesome military guy, like a Rambo, from a Middle Eastern country, who grows tired of wars and blood, so he goes to New York to cut hair. He gets there, cuts hair in a sexy way I guess (from the trailer, it’s sort of hard to tell), and suddenly lines form outside the salon he works in.

Of course, not everyone believes he’s dead and some enemies come looking for him, or so I gather.

The bottom line is this:

It’s Adam Sandler and Judd Apatow. I don’t even care if Sandler’s last movie was “Chuck and Larry”, one of the worst he’s ever made…if he’s doing a film with the guy who brought us “Superbad” and “Knocked Up” and “Freaks and Geeks“, bring it on!

Not to mention Apatow is also a part of another new movie coming out on December 21st called “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story“, which so far has 5 fresh ratings and 0 rotten on Rotten Tomatoes and also great reviews by Richard Roeper and whoever his guest was at the time.

He’s on a roll right now, and Sandler hooking up with him to do a new film was likely a genius move.

There are also going to be some cameos in this one, from Mariah Carey to Dave Matthews (who will be playing a “red neck terrorist“). And of course Rob Schneider, who’s been in like every Sandler movie EVER.

Can’t wait for this one. It hits theaters June 6th, 2008.
