Now that it’s right on our doorstep, it seems there is fan unrest with the romance seen in previews between Susan Penvensie and Prince Caspian himself.

Apparently there is a scene of the two kissing, which is abbhorent to fans of the books because that never happened anywhere in C.S. Lewis’ original stories.

The MTV Movie Blog asked fans for questions they’d like answered from the cast and crew and this one big one cropped up enough that they actually took it to the Prince Caspian people.

Why are they doing it? Is it important enough to have to ruin the canon?

There are SPOILERS below this sentence, mainly having to do with the future of Susan. If you have read the books, you probably know it, and if you haven’t, you may not want to.

Part of the big controversy, which I entirely forgot about, is that Susan never returns to Narnia after Prince Caspian. In the final book, The Last Battle, she is said to care about nothing but nylons, lipstick and being grown-up.

So tossing in this romance…how does it affect things? Are they going to change the future of Susan?

Personally, having gone through the same thing with Lord of the Rings, sometimes these things just have to be done to improve the “movie” quality of a story transferred to the big screen.

The video below contains answers to the question from Ben Barnes, Anna Popplewell and Andrew Adamson. (if the video doesn’t load, click here)
