Graphic novel review: “Y: The Last Man” (Vol. 1-5)
Back in February my journey wtih graphic novels took off with Y: The Last Man, and you can read the review I wrote for the first volume in the 10-part series.
I’ve read a bunch of others in the meantime, but just recently I got back into this story of Yorick Brown and the fact that he’s the last man on Earth. I’m finally finished with Book 5, which is the halfway point in the series, and felt I should write a review at this juncture.
Book Review: “The City of Ember” by Jeanne Duprau (2003)
Upon hearing of the movie City of Ember, which hits theaters in October, I had to find out more and that started with reading the book which the film is based on.
If you want to see a bit more about the movie, check out the teaser we posted not too long ago.
Graphic Novel review: “Wanted”
When I heard that the movie being released soon, Wanted, was taken from a graphic novel, I decided that I needed to read it.
One of the reasons was that I’d heard from one of our readers, R.A. Porter, than he was worried about how different the movie would be compared to the original story.
And now [...]
Graphic Novel review: “Civil War”
So you may know that my newfound love for graphic novels just began not too long ago and I’ve reviewed most of them for you guys, but so far nothing has come equal to the one I just finished.
The only one I’ve read that I haven’t written a review for yet is Watchmen, and perhaps [...]
Graphic Novel Review: “30 Days of Night”
The most recent graphic novel I’ve read was 30 Days of Night, mostly because Aaron at Atomic Comics told me I needed to read it. I’m not a comic geek for sure, but after talking to Aaron about writers, stories and art styles for like 30 minutes, I think my transformation has begun.
30 Days of [...]
Graphic Novel Review: “Serenity: Those We Left Behind”
I’m certain I’ve said it before, but one of my all-time favorite science fiction series and pretty much any show really, is Firefly. Joss Whedon created an amazing universe with characters that have lived on despite the show being canceled after only nine episodes.
With huge fan support prompting Whedon on, he made a movie based [...]
Comic book review: ‘Serenity: Better Days – Vol 1′
I vaguely remember buying a comic book once a long time ago as a kid, but I have zero idea what it was or if it even really happened. So without knowing for sure, my recent purchase of Serenity: Better Days could very likely be the first time I ever walked into a comic book [...]
Graphic novel review: ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ (1986)
My foray into the world of graphic novels continued with The Dark Knight Returns, by Frank Miller circa 1986. The first one I read was Y: The Last Man, Book 1: Unmanned and I wrote a review about it around a week ago.
My background on this stuff is highly limited, but there is no doubt [...]
Graphic Novel Review: ‘Y: The Last Man, Book 1: Unmanned’
My wife rocks.
What wife do you know who buys her husband two graphic novels for Valentine’s Day just because she remembered that he once said he’d like to get into that genre?
The problem was, I had no idea where to start. There are so many comics out there, so many stories and characters. I love [...]
AML Book Review: “Replay”
Thanks to the guys over at StopRealityTV.com, I found out about a little book called Replay by Ken Grimwood, a neat time travel story with some interesting and unique elements to it.
Jeff Winston is the subject of the book, a man who is a 43 year old radio journalist and in a marriage that is [...]
