This weekend turned out to be full of good news for Terminator fans. In case you haven’t heard, it was confirmed earlier this weekend that “The Sarah Connor Chronicles” will definitely be returning for a second season. Also, the ugly rumor that the Terminator sequel (I’m not sure what we’re calling it now, but we’ll go with Terminator 4 for lack of another title) had been shelved was just that, an ugly rumor. Production on the film continues.

In fact, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Moon Bloodgood is in final negotiations to join the cast of the film as the female lead. Most of you will probably remember Bloodgood from NBC’s short-lived series “Journeyman” (or ABC’s short-lived series “Day Break”).

In the fourth installment of the “Terminator” movie series Bloodgood will play a no-nonsense and battle-hardened member of the resistance who is carrying a lot of guilt over surviving the nuclear holocaust. She will be joining Christian Bale, Sam Worthington and Anton Yelchin who have already been cast in the film.

Principal photography is set to begin May 5, with Charlie’s Angels director McG at the helm. Terminator 4 is set for release on May 22, 2009.

Not a huge week in DVDs unless you love TV shows, horror films, the subject of the afterlife and high definition calibration tools.

Woo! Let’s jump right into all the DVD shenanigans.

Party of Five: Season 3

I just have to say, I absolutely LOVED Party of Five and so did the three guys I roomed with for awhile in the mid-90s. We’d watch it every week while eating $5 large pizzas from Peter Piper Pizza.

Now is released the third season of the show, and if you were a fan at all, you likely will recall this was the year of the big Bailey Intervention episode which was talked about for weeks after. Me and the three roommates all tried to hide our watery eyes from each other when Claudia attempts to convince Bailey that he needs help. (buy)

The Mist

An original short story by Stephen King, I read The Mist after the movie hit theaters and decided to wait until DVD to see it, so you can guarantee I’ll be out this week reserving my own copy.

I’m pretty sure things got changed up from book to big screen, but the story of a mysterious mist the floats over town, hiding evil creatures is too good to pass up.

There is a regular and 2-disc special edition. (buy)

Wristcutters: A Love Story

Heard about this movie a long time ago, but it was an indie flick and probably limited to the one art house it town. A good rating on IMDB of 7.5, this film is about a special afterlife for people who have committed suicide. It’s classified as a comedy drama fantasy romance.

A strange plot for sure, but one that sounds super interesting. (buy)

The Kite Runner

This little indie film was up for Best Original Score at the Oscars this year and has an almost 8.0 rating on IMDB, which is darned good.

We’ll likely be adding this to our Blockbuster queue for a later viewing. (buy)

Day Break: The Complete Series

The ABC series starring Taye Diggs, which I enjoyed until it got canceled after only 6 episodes aired. Well, all 13 are available now and from what I can gather from user reviews online, the series completed nicely, so perhaps the answers are there.

I may have to check this out as well. (buy)

Digital Video Essentials: HD-DVD and Blu-Ray

This appears to be something all HD TV owners need and it’s a high definition disc that helps you calibrate your television and audio to look and sound the best it can. I’ve heard about a show on HDNET that does the exact same thing but have never taken the time to find it.

I personally would like to try out calibrating my TV, who knows how much better it could look. (Blu-Ray, HD-DVD)

More

Wings: Season 6 – Always thought the show was funny when I watched, which wasn’t often

Best of The Price is Right – Are they serious? Who would buy this?

Reba: Seasons 1-4 – I’ve never seen an episode and never plan to.

Blu-Ray Releases

Bonnie & Clyde (Warner)

Digital Video Essentials: HD Basics (DVD International)

Mendelssohn: A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Opus Arte)

Naked Beneath the Water (Phoenix Group)

Steep (Sony)

In the Fall of 2006, a little show premiered that actually developed a following of sorts by a small fan base, which of course got their loyalties smashed all over the place when <strike>NBC</strike> ABC canceled it after only six episodes.

It was called Day Break and starred Taye Diggs and Moon Bloodgood (from Journeyman). Taye Diggs played a detective named Bret Hopper who keeps reliving the same day over and over and over again, with no clue why.

Sounds a bit like the book Replay I just read, but it’s a lot different of course.

The day he starts repeating is a day when he’s framed for a murder, and he uses each repeat to build upon what he knows to try and figure out who is behind this conspiracy.

I always get into shows like this. A little supernatural, a little time travel, and I’m hooked. Day Break was okay, not awesome, but it kept my interesting and I was kind of bummed I never found out what happened at the end.

Well, now you can as the entire 13-episode season of Day Break is coming to DVD on March 11th. The episodes are all in anamorphic widescreen and shown with 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound. There are some decent extras like commentaries on each episode, interviews and more.

I couldn’t find whether the finale of the 13th episode answers major questions or not, but I’m sure the answer is out there. I partially didn’t WANT to find it for fear of ruining it for me.

You can pre-order it here at Amazon.com, or just wait until it hits Blockbuster in March.
