John Wells’ “ER” is set to end after its upcoming fifteenth season on NBC, but the network isn’t ready to get out of the John Wells business just yet. The peacock net has just picked up a cop-related show from the ER producer.

The new series is tentatively titled “LAPD.” The hourlong drama will center, as expected, on police in Los Angeles. Ann Biderman who worked on “NYPD Blue” is set to write the project while Chris Chulack (“ER”) will direct.

Wells, Biderman and Chulack are all set as exec producers on “LAPD,” which will come from Warner Bros. TV and John Wells Prods.

An Entertainment Weekly article I read this past weekend makes me want to give ER a return to season pass status when they come back for their final run this fall.

Because of the shortened strike season, networks have less developed pilots and new shows on their hands, hence they are more eager to bring back current series for another go. This is the reason why Scrubs could end up continued for another year, even if it’s on ABC and not NBC.

ER was intended to be over this year, but now that NBC has renewed them for a 15th and final season, the producers have decided to go out with a bang.

At this moment, the plan is to bring George Clooney, Julianna Margulies and Noah Wyle back for final appearances to close out the series. Wyle is already a guarantee, having signed on to reprise his role as Dr. Carter for four episodes.

“We want to revisit characters that have existed on the show over the years and say where they are now,” says executive producer David Zabel. “We’ve love to get them all back in some way, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to. But we’re gonna try.”

This is fantastic news I must say. I used to be an ER devotee, but after 9,10,11 years…it started to get a bit old. Even so, I’ve found myself drawn back to it once or twice over the last few years, just to see what’s going on. But now with this final season to be seen off by returning characters, I’m going to have to watch it.

Would be awesome if we also saw Dr. Benton as well. I’m sure there are countless others that I’ve forgotten over the years, but hopefully the producers round up a few more.

Do you still watch ER? Will you watch the final season?

I have to say, I gave up on Law & Order a few years back but in its heyday, it was one of my favorites. Always with great little stories and solid acting from an awesome cast.

Why did I stop watching? It was kind of like ER for me…the show had just run its course and I felt I had gotten enough crime stories to make me never miss NOT watching the show. ER was the same…you can only see so many emergency hospital explosions or people cut in half before you’ve seen it all.

Sort of like giving up CSI this year. I think I’ve seen about all I need to.

Well, if you still like the show and watch it, it’s back on tonight at 9pm EST on NBC. Sam Waterston, who I really enjoy, will be moving to district attorney, while two newbie named Linus Roche and Jeremy Sisto join the team. Sisto will be one of the detectives, while Roche is part of the law team.

After having seen what a great job Sisto did in Waitress earlier this year, and with the lack of anything good on television, I may just have to check it out. If you want to read a bit more about the new cast, visit NBC.com.
