Help me choose a Blu-Ray player
Okay, this post will probably make our loyal readers laugh. A lot. But whatever.
I’ve included you thus far in my high-definition DVD journey, so I may as well keep it going.
The deal is this: I’m having a kid in about eight months and my life is going to drastically change, especially in the financial department. After December 4th-ish, the chances of me buying a Blu-Ray player are slim to none.
Amazon tries to appease my HD-DVD pain
Well, I was waiting to see what, if anything, Amazon.com would do for those of us morons who purchased HD-DVD players prior to the total death of the technology.
Other stores, like Best Buy and Circuit City, all offered people full refunds, credits, etc., towards Blu-Ray players, or even money back.
Word comes down today that Amazon.com [...]
Band of Brothers coming to Blu-Ray
Somehow I never got to see Band of Brothers, the HBO classic miniseries that has a 9.6 out of 10 rating on IMDB by over 46,000 readers.
Directed by Tom Hanks, co-produced by himself and Steven Spielberg, the 10-part miniseries won countless awards from Emmys to Golden Globes, and is considered to be among the best miniseries of all-time.
What to rent: DVD releases for 3/25/08
Not a huge week in DVDs unless you love TV shows, horror films, the subject of the afterlife and high definition calibration tools.
Woo! Let’s jump right into all the DVD shenanigans.
Party of Five: Season 3
I just have to say, I absolutely LOVED Party of Five and so did the three guys I roomed with for [...]
I’ll never own a Blu-Ray player at this rate
So HD-DVD lost out, and that’s fine, I’ve gotten over it. My main course of action now is to watch the Blu-Ray players out there and snatch one up when they finally get low enough for me to feel like it’s financially OKAY to get one.
My threshold right now for an immediate purchase of a [...]
Samsung kills my combo-player hopes
Well, our readers tried to warn me and I started believing them towards the end, but not until today did I fully grasp the meaning of “coasters” when it comes to describing my HD-DVDs.
EngadgetHD passed on the bad news that Samsung is halting production on their new BD-UP5500 HD-DVD/Blu-Ray Combo drive player, and will completely [...]
What to rent: DVD releases for 3/4/08
This week has one of the movies I’ve been looking forward to seeing for quite awhile now and just never got a chance when it was in theaters. Other than that, the releases aren’t spectacular, although there are some decent high-def titles.
Into The Wild
I read the book awhile ago because I wanted to get the [...]
Netflix sneaking in DVDs for HD-DVDs
Just a heads up out there if you are a Netflix subscriber and own an HD-DVD player. I know, there aren’t many of you dumb enough to have purchased an HD-DVD player like myself, but just in CASE one of you is, here is some crazy news.
Awhile back we posted that Netflix was going to [...]
What to watch: DVD releases for 2/26/08
I’m having a hard time getting super-excited for anything coming out this week, but there are a few interesting options out there for your weekend DVD rental fun.
Beowulf
Beowulf was generally considered pretty decent, but it was shown in theaters with 3D effects, so there is no telling how much it loses being shown on a [...]
Direct TV HD pay-per-view offerings
The last month or two I’ve been fairly impressed with the speed at which Direct TV is slapping up movies in their high definition pay-per-view channels. It started off slow, but it’s hitting on all cylinders right now.
Case in point, Michael Clayton was just released on DVD and Blu-Ray this past Tuesday and it’s already [...]
