Seinfeld Now in Real HD on TBS
I never, ever thought it would happen, but according to Engadget HD and the AVSForum, the long-awaited SD to HD conversion for Seinfeld has been finished.
As Elaine would say, “GET OUT!”
No, it’s true. And I’m not talking about the fake stretch-o-vision HD stuff that TBS loves to show us.
Sony has spent mega dollars to go [...]
NBC and iTunes Kiss and Make Up
Once upon a time, two media giants, NBC and iTunes, got upset at each other and parted ways. NBC took their content off iTunes and the fans were the ones that suffered.
Now it appears that scuffle has ended. The two parties have reconnected, made up and are now ready to move forward.
Steve Jobs told reporters the news at the big Apple “Let’s Rock!” event in San Francisco. The Office, 30 Rock, Monk, Battlestar Galactica…all of them will be back on iTunes. And now in high-definition if you so desire.
DirecTV and TiVo Reform Their Beautiful Union
I meant to write about this news story a few days ago, but completely forgot until ScottyDub reminded me last night. Thanks for the reminder Scotty!
If any of you are like me, you got into the DVR world back when we all called them TiVo’s because that’s all there was. You didn’t say the word “DVR” because it really hadn’t been invented yet. You just went around saying things like “Did you TiVo it?” or “I forgot to TiVo Lost last night! Argh!” or “I LOVE MY TIVO!”
We said the latter phrase at least once a week.
Watch Season Four of Battlestar Galactica from the Beginning!
Good ol’ Universal HD will be starting the fourth season of Battlestar Galactica this Saturday night at 8 PM EST, so set your DVRs to record them if you want to re-watch or catch-up with what you might have missed.
If anything, the season premiere featured a space battle worthy of an Emmy win in special effects. It’s worth a second-viewing.
As some of you may not get UHD, you can try to view some on Hulu, but as of right now, they only have episodes 5-9. Weird.
ABC Family HD Goes Live on DIRECTV
For those of you DIRECTV subscribers who haven’t noticed the gargantuan advertisement for ABC Family HD that is appearing in your guide, it’s there and the channel is now in high definition.
What kind of programming is available in HD isn’t certain yet. I know our DVR picked up a marathon of Greek today and they were all in high-def.
30 more HD channels coming soon to DirecTV
Starting on August 14th, DirecTV will begin launching 30 more high definition channels to boost their HD lineup to 130 total channels.
Additionally, by the end of August DTV will be broadcasting all their HD content in the new MPEG-4 format, the first provider in the industry to do that. This also means glorious Dolby Digital sound will be standard on all HD stations.
“Planet Earth” fans: It’s time for “Earth: The Biography”
I’m not sure how many of you watched Planet Earth last year on the Discovery channel, and how many of you witnessed it in glorious high definition, but if you like those kinds of nature epics, then Earth: The Biography may be right up your alley.
It started last night on the National Geographic channel, which also has a high-def simulcast if you are so lucky.
Battlestar Galactica: Season 4 starts on UHD this Saturday
For those of you way behind the eight ball when it comes to season four of Battlestar Galactica, or if you didn’t have Sci Fi HD yet with your cable/satellite provider, your relief is in sight.
NBC’s Universal HD channel will start playing season four starting this Saturday night with the premiere episode, He That Believeth In Me.
No “Firefly” on Blu-Ray until 2009
Just a quick note to you Firefly fans out there. We told you not too long ago that the entire Firefly series would be out on high-definition Blu-Ray in September of this year, but Digital Bits is reporting that date is no longer valid.
NBC buys The Weather Channel, plus hurricanes in HD!
I’m actually pretty embarrassed to admit I don’t watch The Weather Channel as much as my friends might think. I’m a weather nut, I constantly watch the radar and the skies during the summer monsoon months here in Phoenix, Arizona.
But I rarely watch that station. Even now when they have a new high-definition studio and more and more HD programming.
