Taking us back to ancient curses where blood thirsty beast prowl, “The Wolfman”, is classified as horror/ Sci-Fi. “The Wolfman” should not be underestimated for its gruesome scenes, and those who find blood and moral fiber unsettling, should take caution before watching.

The Wolfman

I found the story fascinating although some of my friends found it “not worth watching”, but any movie starring Anthony Hawkins is typically one that can be respected. “The Wolfman” does not fall short of any great movie that I have seen recently and the picture quality on HD was phenomenal!

Critics do not always look forward to remakes; however, for those of us who missed the first Wolfman it is fresh and new. I especially enjoyed the turn of events after the nobleman went to search for his missing brother.

The movie outlined the gypsy ancient curse of the werewolf; which was entertaining and strangely intriguing especially for those who find urban legends and curses to be mythological but buy into the storybook tales that we so dearly want to believe. “The Wolfman”, is a must-see!

Last month Mike shared with us how the trailer for The Strangers (official site) scared the crap out of him. I have to admit it was a pretty freaky trailer. One of the most disturbing images from the preview was a shot of Liv Tyler standing in her living room as one of “the strangers” enters the room behind her wearing a mask. This scene was replicated for the official one-sheet poster for the film which was released exclusively to ShockTillYouDrop.com yesterday (yeah, we don’t get the exclusives just yet).

Despite the haunting image on the poster, I think I actually like the teaser poster for this film better than this one. That poster had its own disturbing image: Liv Tyler, bloodied and crawling on the ground, searching for escape. I thought the colors and imagery of that poster worked well together and really drew attention to itself. This poster seems to be a lot more mainstream, and, hence, a lot more like all the other posters out there.

According to the poster, the film is “inspired” by true events. I wouldn’t place a lot of stock in that as almost any story could be said to be inspired by true events. Still, the idea that strangers would attack a couple who are in their own home, isolated, is kind of scary. If you like scary movies this might be a good choice for you.

The Strangers stars Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler and opens in theaters on May 30, 2008.

I read a great book back in 2006 called The Ruins by Scott Smith and, along with The Road, it was one of my favorite books of the year.

Smith also wrote A Simple Plan, which was turned into a movie starring Billy Bob Thorton back in 1995, a film that turned out to be pretty good. I still want to read that book.

Now The Ruins is also being made into a movie, or more precise, HAS been made into a movie and is currently in post-production.

I loved the book and had totally forgotten about the fact that a film was being made until I saw Sweeney Todd on Friday afternoon. I walked in after the preview started, but all it took was a brief look at the screen and a sample of the dialog for me to do a double-take.

The plot sounded very familiar and I about jumped in realization that it was The Ruins.

I will preface all this by saying if I hadn’t read the book and just saw the preview, it might look like any dumb horror movie to come along starring young kids who likely will become half-naked at some point during the bloodshed.

It stars Jena Malone from Saved and Pride & Prejudice, Jonathan Tucker from The Black Donnellys (A good TV series canceled early), and Shawn Ashmore, otherwise known as Jimmy Olsen on Smallville.

So with a cast of young actors, none of which you’d consider great (Although I loved Tucker on Donnellys), the promise of a good rendering of the book is a bit iffy.

Still, I will likely check it out just for the fact that the book was a unique and scary horror novel that I couldn’t put down for a single moment. Smith actually wrote the screenplay for the movie, so that’s a confidence booster right there.

The basic plot revolves around four friends who meet a German tourist in Cancun and decide to help him find his brother, who was last seen headed to some old ruins on an archeological dig.

That’s all I’m going to say about it. Much happens and it will make your skin crawl, goose bumps perhaps form on your arms. I’d suggest reading it in full sunlight.

Regardless, the trailer is below for your enjoyment and if you think it looks interesting, go buy the book at Amazon.com and get ready for a real treat.
