Mike’s Comic Pull List for Week of September 16th
Last week was a slim one for me in terms of reading comics. The new series from Stephen King, The Stand, was great fun and highly enjoyable.
But I haven’t read a good book in quite awhile, so while I was at Barnes & Noble last Friday, I saw Dexter Dreaming Darkly and just had to [...]
Kick-Ass Update from Mark Millar, Plus First Pictures of Nicholas Cage on Set
Mark Millar is pretty cool in the way he updates his fans via his personal website on all the happenings with his comic books, movies and anything else that he’s involved with. It’s always great to see guys like him embrace the internet marketing world we live in and share whatever information they can.
The web is an awesome viral tool in helping promote your stuff.
Yesterday Millar posted a big update about the upcoming movie, Kick-Ass, and by all indications, this thing is going to be bloody, evil and downright nasty. There were even stories last week about Nicholas Cage not realizing just how violent this thing was.
Mark Millar Talks Superman Trilogy
Back in early July, I passed on news to you guys that Mark Millar, author of Wanted, War Heroes, 1985 and a host of other comics, told some people that he had a real idea for rebooting the Superman franchise.
And it was welcomed news, at least to me. The franchise is essentially dead in my eyes, as the last installment did nothing but enact a “ho-hum” from me. There had to be someone out there with a bigger and better idea, someone who could do what Christopher Nolan has done with Batman.
The official Kick-Ass movie website goes live
We told you a few days ago that Mark Millar would be coming out with some news about Kick-Ass, the upcoming film adaptation of the graphic novel with the same name.
Well, the first part of this big news is the launch of the official website for the movie, which went live today. There isn’t anything there but a splash page but I’m sure that will change shortly.
You can enter your email address to get updates on what’s happening with the movie, the first I assume will be the notification that the site is actually more than just the title of the movie and “coming soon.”
Millar reveals the cover for War-Heroes #3
War-Heroes is an interesting series so far and I’m looking forward to #2 sometime this month. Mark Millar is the writer and Tony Harris does the art for this soldier-superhero comic book adventure.
I reviewed the first issue last month, and you can read it here to get a good idea of what War-Heroes is all about.
But even as we’re still waiting for #2, Millar and Harris posted the sketch for #3’s cover on their forum and it’s pretty crazy looking.
Mark Millar teases huge Kick-Ass news
On Mark Millar’s messageboard this afternoon, he passed on the following juicy, if not annoyingly frustrating, tidbit:
HUGE KICK-ASS NEWS IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS
I’m away to bed in a minute, but stay tuned. You’ll like this.

Comic book review: “War Heroes #1″ (2008)
In the latest series from Mark Millar (Wanted, Kick-Ass, 1985), the United States of the very near future is still fighting the war on terrorism in Iraq, soldiers are dying, the economy sucks and the president’s approval ratings are non-existent.
Sound familiar?
Calling it the sequel to Ultimates 3 if he’d written it, Millar brings us a new, six-issue comic book series called War Heroes.
Mark Millar’s comic book War Heroes releases today
The more I read about War Heroes, the new self-contained story from comic book writer Mark Millar (Wanted, Kick-Ass, Ultimates 1 and 2), the more excited I get to read the first issue.
War Heroes #1 hits comic book stores today, and it’s likely to be sold out fairly quick. I already have the series added to my box over at Atomic Comics, so I’ll be making a stop over there this afternoon.
Comic book review: “Kick-Ass” (Issue One)
Sometimes it seems like a tough task reviewing a tiny, 24-page comic book. There is only so much there that you can even talk about without giving too much of the plot away.
But Mark Millar’s Kick-Ass was so much fun to read, I obviously had to write a review on it.
Mark Millar to save the Superman movie franchise?
If you recall way back in May, I posted a blog about the guys at SaveSuperman.com who were furiously working hard to get DC Comics to reinvent the Superman movie franchise and save it from the grasps of Bryan Singer and Brandon Routh.
Well, I don’t think they had anything to do with this news, but I’m sure they are positively giddy over it.
