I found this trailer via First Showing, which was first posted over at IGN.

The movie is called Babylon A.D. and it stars Vin Diesel as a mercenary who takes on a high-risk job escorting a woman from Russia to China. However, there is something special about her, which IMDB tells us:

Little does he know that she is host to an organism that a cult wants to harvest in order to produce a genetically modified Messiah.

The movie is based on a book called Babylon Babies, by Maurice G. Dantex. It’s a sci-fi thriller that some of the users of IMDB seem to think should have been made into a film with an NC-17 or R-rating, but has been dumbed down by 20th Century Fox to warrant only a PG-13.

Babylon A.D. also starts Michelle Yeoh, who was most recently in Sunshine.

The trailer is pretty cool looking, especially the second-to-last scene with the rocket being shot towards the girl. The plot is interesting, but it really is going to depend on how good the movie is.

I’m not a huge Vin Diesel fan, but I did love him in Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick. He seems to do well in these futuristic sci-fi films.

Here is the poster for the movie:

I just can’t get excited about The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the third addition to the Mummy franchise. The poster looks cool and the preview is jam packed with action and special effects, but there’s just something off. I think that if Rachel Weisz had returned as the wife/mother/female lead and if the kid in the last movie wasn’t like 19 years old now, and if skipping all those years made any sense then I might would have this film on my list of movies that I wanted to see this summer. As it stands, however, I just can’t get excited about it.

Still, the preview is actually pretty good.

The blockbuster global franchise takes a spellbinding turn as the action shifts to Asia for the next chapter in the adventure series, “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.” Brendan Fraser returns as explorer Rick O’Connell to combat the resurrected Han Emperor (Jet Li) in an epic that races from the catacombs of ancient China high into the frigid Himalayas. Rick is joined in this all-new adventure by son Alex (newcomer Luke Ford), wife Evelyn (Maria Bello) and her brother, Jonathan (John Hannah). And this time, the O’Connells must stop a mummy awoken from a 2,000-year-old curse who threatens to plunge the world into his merciless, unending service. Doomed by a double-crossing sorceress (Michelle Yeoh) to spend eternity in suspended animation, China’s ruthless Dragon Emperor and his 10,000 warriors have laid forgotten for eons, entombed in clay as a vast, silent terra cotta army. But when dashing adventurer Alex O’Connell is tricked into awakening the ruler from eternal slumber, the reckless young archaeologist must seek the help of the only people who know more than he does about taking down the undead: his parents. As the monarch roars back to life, our heroes find his quest for world domination has only intensified over the millennia.

I think the poster for the film is pretty good too – a little darker than I would have expected from this film series.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor opens in theaters on August 1, 2008.
