Joss Whedon‘s first assault on the Internet premiered on Tuesday with mixed results. I mean, sure it’s the NUMBER ONE download at iTunes. And sure the sound of SQUEEEE! fills the air. And sure the critics are all singing the praises of the singing villain.

But it was so popular, the Dr. Horrible folks had to get new webservers! That’s not good. They were too loved!

I…don’t want to say much about it. Act I is up for your viewing pleasure and is just over 10 minutes long. If you love NPH (and if you don’t, are you sure you’re at the right website?) and if you love Joss Whedon (if not, see the last parenthetical) you should check this out. Oh, plus there’s the lovely Felicia Day, the lovely Nathan Fillion, and songs aplenty. I will tell you this, Dr. Horrible has a good chance of making it into the Evil League of Evil if his plans go right. His “application is strong this year.”

Let’s hope Captain Hammer doesn’t screw things up like always.

Act II premieres tomorrow (tonight at midnight, actually) and Act III on the 19th. It’s only going to be free online for a few days, so take advantage of this remarkable window of opportunity while you can. Otherwise, you’ll have people like me kvetching to you endlessly: “how could you miss it? Do you want to borrow my DVD copy? Here, let me get the DVD.”

The other day we brought you news about Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Today we’ve got more details on when and where. Out of the fevered pen of the of the head Mutant Enemy himself, here’s the skinny:

ONE WEEK ONLY! AN INTERNET MINISERIES EVENT!

“Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” will be streamed, LIVE (that part’s not true), FREE (sadly, that part is) right on Drhorrible.com, in mid-July. Specifically:

ACT ONE (Wheee!) will go up Tuesday July 15th.

ACT TWO (OMG!) will go up Thursday July 17th.

ACT THREE (Denouement!) will go up Saturday July 19th.

All acts will stay up until midnight Sunday July 20th. Then they will vanish into the night, like a phantom (but not THE Phantom – that’s still playing. Like, everywhere.)

If you’re so inclined, take a look at the site now. There’s the trailer, of course, a form to register for email updates, and links to Dr. Horrible on MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter. See? He’s a friendly super-villain!

I figure there are three classes of people who’ve been following updates about Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog: Whedon-philes, Internet content evangelists, and…no. Sorry. Those are the only two classes of people who’ve been waiting. Fortunately, there are a lot of the former, and I actually belong to both camps.

During the WGA strike, several big-time writers started exploring other avenues of distribution outside the traditional studio system. For example, one of the first deals the WGA closed during the divide and conquer period was with Media Rights Capital (MRC), letting Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane get to work on his digital shorts for Google. That deal will presumably be profitable for MacFarlane over time.

Joss Whedon made a less profit-driven choice in creating a three-part online musical about a supervillain. Making it a family affair, the musical is co-created by Joss, his brothers Zack and Jed, and Jed’s fianceé Maurissa Tancharoen. It stars Neil Patrick Harris (and once you get to really know me, you’ll know I think NPH is a god among men,) Nathan Fillion, and many of the other Whedon Irregulars.

Editor’s Note: Fillion was pretty excited to be working with Whedon again, which you can tell from this audio clip I found over on DoctorHorrible.net:

[audio:doctorhorrible.mp3]

Finally, here’s the first trailer:

Can you feel the excitement?

Awhile ago I passed a great video on to you guys from the clever Improv Everywhere group who pull off awesome showcases of acting talent in public areas.

The previous one was done at Grand Central Station, where 200 people stopped dead in their tracks like they were right out of science fiction film.

This new edition is done in a mall food court, but it’s unlike any of the others. This time they get the permission of the management at the mall, channel their microphones into the PA system at the food court and perform an impromptu musical.

It’s pretty funny and brought a smile to my face. I can’t imagine sitting at a mall and BAM, seeing 12-15 people suddenly put on a pretty decent little musical number right in front of you.

When you are done watching the video below, visit Improv Everywhere to read more about how they set this up and rehearsed for the number.

“And these are a few of my favorite things…”

Oh yeah, this is going to be fun.

What is something guys hate most in the world? Chick flicks, ballet and probably musicals.

Ah, but I also don’t think guys hate them as much as they say they do. Just like how we don’t admit we cry at movies, we also have probably seen a musical we secretly loved. Or at least, no one saw us tapping our toes.

The thing is, there have been some decent musicals out there and I’m curious what your favorite one is. And this isn’t just for guys of course, but any women out there should answer as well.

I’m actually very curious what the answers will be. I will totally accept “I hate them, I don’t like any!” but I may call you a liar. *grin*

My answer would be The Sound of Music, although Moulin Rouge is a close second.

When I was a kid, I probably saw Sound of Music as many times as I saw Star Wars. I don’t know why, but I’m sure it might have had to do with the SLIGHT crush I had on Brigita —–>

I am pretty sure I know all the words to all the songs and while it likely immasculates me to admit it, I am proud to do so.

As far as Moulin Rouge, I think I enjoyed that for the mere shock of realizing that Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor could actually SING!

There have been a ton of musicals out there, many I’ve not seen, especially the older ones, so I’m looking forward to unique answers from you guys.

If you are a girl, I can’t wait to see your responses, and if you are a guy, do you have the guts to admit your favorite?

With that…I ask you: What is your all-time favorite movie musical?
