This second teaser trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s film called Australia (official title might be Baz Luhrmann’s Australia) is pretty similar to the first teaser. The first half is almost the same, but we get some new images in the second half. This being a teaser there’s still not a lot of story or plot involved, but the teaser gives you the feeling of an epic film.

A romantic action-adventure set in northern Australia prior to World War II, Australia centers on an English aristocrat (Nicole Kidman) who inherits a ranch the size of Maryland. When English cattle barons plot to take her land, she reluctantly joins forces with a rough-hewn cattle driver (Hugh Jackman) to drive 2000 head of cattle across hundreds of miles of the country’s most unforgiving land, only to still face the bombing of Darwin, Australia by the Japanese forces that had attacked Pearl Harbor only months earlier. With his new film, Luhrmann is painting on a vast canvas, creating a cinematic experience that brings together romance, drama, adventure and spectacle.

I wasn’t sure the day would ever come that I’d start to get excited about an upcoming Baz Luhrmann film, but Australia starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman is starting to look like it might be pretty good. We showed you a few pics last month, but the teaser trailer was just released and it gives us a much better idea of what the film is going to look like. It looks beautiful.

An interesting tidbit of trivia is that Heath Ledger was reportedly set to star in this film but ultimately dropped out in order to play The Joker in The Dark Knight. Russell Crowe was also attached to the film but ended up leaving during pre-production. I’m sure Hugh Jackman will do just fine (does he look like Clint Eastwood in the picture above to anyone else?), but it’s interesting to think what the film might have been like with either Ledger (in his last full role) or Crowe in the lead. The upcoming period epic film stars Nicole Kidman as Lady Sarah Ashley, an English aristocrat, who is left in control of a cattle station in Australia during World War II. An Australian drover played by Hugh Jackman, with whom she becomes romantically interested, helps to drive the cattle across the property as they are under the threat of nearby Darwin being bombed.

The pics below are just a few that were posted to the official website. I’ve seen others (which I haven’t gotten copies of yet) that are simply beautiful. This could definitely be a film to keep our eyes on.

What is something guys hate most in the world? Chick flicks, ballet and probably musicals.

Ah, but I also don’t think guys hate them as much as they say they do. Just like how we don’t admit we cry at movies, we also have probably seen a musical we secretly loved. Or at least, no one saw us tapping our toes.

The thing is, there have been some decent musicals out there and I’m curious what your favorite one is. And this isn’t just for guys of course, but any women out there should answer as well.

I’m actually very curious what the answers will be. I will totally accept “I hate them, I don’t like any!” but I may call you a liar. *grin*

My answer would be The Sound of Music, although Moulin Rouge is a close second.

When I was a kid, I probably saw Sound of Music as many times as I saw Star Wars. I don’t know why, but I’m sure it might have had to do with the SLIGHT crush I had on Brigita —–>

I am pretty sure I know all the words to all the songs and while it likely immasculates me to admit it, I am proud to do so.

As far as Moulin Rouge, I think I enjoyed that for the mere shock of realizing that Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor could actually SING!

There have been a ton of musicals out there, many I’ve not seen, especially the older ones, so I’m looking forward to unique answers from you guys.
