Not sure how the Scrubs episodes will work, but it’s kind of cool that Fox might be reunited with Cox, who played his girlfriend Lauren on Family Ties many, many years ago. Totally loved that show.

Very curious about what Fox’s role will be on Rescue Me though…that’s not exactly a show that would scream for an actor like him.

Scrubs returns this fall, while Rescue Me wont be back until sometime in 2009.

The Ausiello Scoop interviewed Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence last week and got the full details about the break-up with NBC and what is to come on ABC.

Ausiello says he likes Lawrence because he doesn’t mince words. I’d have to agree, based on his harsh trashing of NBC he did during the discussion.

Here are some of the highlights of the talk they had:

What led to the break-up with NBC?
Lawrence: When the strike ended, we told NBC that, even though we had another seven episodes mapped out, we could do it in three, and they just didn’t have any interest. Total harsh buzz of not giving a s–t about a show that had been on the network for seven years and made them millions of dollars. And I’d be more bitter, except that it worked out good for us.

We finally know why the heck that Princess Bride episode aired out of order. Not by their choosing:

They didn’t want to do any kind of wrap-up?
Lawrence: Not only did they not want to do any kind of wrap-up, but they took an episode that was supposed to air in the middle of the season — the fairytale episode — and marketed it as a series finale. Which was bulls–t. It was never supposed to be a series finale, much less a season finale, and I think it ended up getting judged kind of harshly because of it. If it was just a regular episode that people had tuned into I think they would’ve thought it was cool and funny.

I was under the impression NBC was willing to give you one episode to finish things off. No?
Lawrence: Well, here’s the thing. When the strike ended, NBC said, “You can shoot an hour-long finale, but we’ll only pay for half of it.” They wanted [ABC Studios] to suck up all the expenses, and ABC said that was unacceptable. And it felt especially harsh because Scrubs was pulling in better Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it. than 30 Rock and My Name is Earl — even though I love those two shows — and they were encouraged to do as many f–king episodes as they can after the strike. And after seven years, I ask for three episodes to wrap up the series and they say, “Tough s–t.”

Here is how it ended up on ABC:

How do you go from three episodes on NBC to 18 on ABC?
Lawrence: It was weird, man. I was thinking we’d put these last six episodes on DVD, just so we can wrap the show up and be proud of it, but the head of ABC Studios, Mark Pedowitz, said, “Bill, if you can make the show a little cheaper, I can probably get us a full season on ABC.” I didn’t answer right away. The first thing I did was call the cast and the writers together and I said, “Look, if we’re going to do this, we have to get back to something we creatively can all be excited about.” Because, personally, I felt like this past season we were less than inspired comedically. So I said to them, “This means you guys working harder. It means having emotional stakes and losing all the goofy, broad stuff that I think is easy to write… ” And everyone said they were on board for one more season.

Read the entire article over on TV Guide, as it has a bit more about the way the show was sort of flat this year and how they’ll be saving money by having each actor take TWO episodes off next season.

Via MySpace bulletin earlier this week, Zach Braff finally let out the news that we all knew anyways: Scrubs is moving to ABC.

Not only that, but he explained just a bit about the Princess Bride season finale called My Princess and addressed the confusion most people had seeing Dr. Kelso suddenly back in charge.

From Braff:

Dear friends,

Many of you have been understandably confused by the Fairy Tale episode of Scrubs serving as the series finale. It was not. I was not allowed to say it until today, but Scrubs will be moving to ABC for its final season. We are currently filming the 8th and final season. The true finale of the show will air on ABC in the fall. NBC merely promoted the Fairy Tale episode as the finale, as it was the last episode they owned.

Also, several of you were very confused by the fact that Dr. Kelso and Laverne were still working at the hospital in the Fairy Tale episode. Because of the writer’s strike, the last remaining episodes for NBC were aired out of order. This is why Dr. Kelso was still chief of medicine. That was not Laverne however, for those of you who have been following closely; it was a new nurse “Shirley” who no one thinks looks anything like Laverne except for JD.

Hope this clears some things up.

peace and love,
zb

Can’t wait to see this show still airing on ABC, especially after that finale which I just really didn’t find all that great.

I’ve come to firmly believe 30 Rock might be the funniest show on TV. I may say that every Friday morning, but lately when I watch it and The Office back-to-back, I find myself laughing a heck of a lot more during 30 Rock.

I’m just saying.

Scrubs and 30 Rock both had their season finales last night, and I’m sad to report that the big Scrubs‘ Princess Bride (My Princess was the official title) episode directed by Zach Braff was sort of a dud.

Perhaps a lot of the disappointment came from the 5 minutes it took to figure out why Dr. Kelso was back in charge and Elliot’s ex-boyfriend suddenly in the picture again.

Obviously the episode was filmed very early on and meant to be shown awhile ago, but I guess they figured “save the best for last.”

Although in this case, it just wasn’t that great…at least for me. The homage to The Princess Bride really felt more like just a regular fantasy than the cult classic.

30 Rock on the other hand was absolutely brilliant once more. The political humor in this episode with Jack Donaghy going to Homeland Security and meeting his co-worker (played by Matthew Broderick) was priceless. Nothing works, they have no pens, there are no leaks and everything is just fine.

Tina Fey got pregnant and then wasn’t pregnant, because the Mexican cheese curls she was eating had a special ingredient…

I think 30 Rock is also so good because I really love the soundtrack they have for the background music. It’s so different from other shows and really helps keep the show moving fluidly.

Over on The Office, Jim Halpert has been motivated after being put on probation by Ryan last week, so he’s out trying to make a sale on the golf course.

Why he would bring Andy and Kevin is beyond me:

While Michael, Pam, Daryl and Oscar are out at a high school job fair, the rest of the crew contemplates why they are still at the office.

This clip below gives us my favorite line of the week (from Creed as usual) and shows Dwight’s current position of authority in the company.

I really enjoyed the episode last week when everything happened AT THE OFFICE, instead of these very popular field trips lately. It was only a tiny break though as we visit a golf course and a high school last night.

Don’t get me wrong, those things are still funny, but I just really, REALLY love the ones that are simply stories around the office.

What did you think of Scrubs, 30 Rock or The Office last night? Favorite lines?

Her talk show is a massive hit and it’s about time it joins the high-definition revolution. EngadgetHD is reporting that September 8th is the day that we’ll be able to see the show in their brand new, HD-friendly, state-of-the-art production studio.

Any show that goes to HD is always news-worthy in my opinion, I just can’t believe out of ALL the shows out there, Scrubs still isn’t high-def.

Two or three years ago, the Scrubs season finale was in HD. But since then, nothing.

Maybe a move to ABC will change that.

Anyways, hopefully all you Ellen fans will enjoy September 8th.

The Scrubs season finale airs on Thursday night, which could be the last episode ever on NBC, but hopefully not the last one we’ll ever get to see.

There is still the rumors about ABC taking over production of Scrubs next year, so let’s all keep crossing our fingers on that. Zach Braff was asked recently about it, but everything is hush-hush right now.

He did say this though on his blog last week:

What I can tell you is that we are currently shooting 18 episodes for the 8th season. I am not allowed to discuss where one might watch them. (More news to come.)

But before it’s all over, we are getting the long-rumored Princess Bride episode, which pays homage to the cult classic fantasy comedy that we all love. At least I do.

Braff gives us the scoop on it:

But I can tell you that the coolest episode we’ve ever done is going to air on May 8th at 8:30(E/P). I directed it and it’s a GIANT homage to “The Princess Bride”. Dr. Cox has to make up a fairy tale for his son and he does so using everything that happened in the hospital that day. It’s by far the most epic (and expensive) episode we’ve ever done. (Monsters, potions, evil wizards, giants, hunchbacks, gnomes – like “World of Warcraft”, but Scrubs…)
I’ll be posting an exclusive clip on this site in a few days.

We’ll track his blog as usual and post a link to the exclusive clip whenever it’s available.

I’m psyched for this episode…Scrubs + The Princess Bride can only = gold.

There’s actually only one movie I’d fee comfortable recommending this week, so all-in-all, it’s a yawner of a Tuesday.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

This movie has an 8.2 rating on IMDB, and a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, won two Golden Globes and had a total of 35 wins in various festivals and award shows.

Elle France editor Jean-Dominique Bauby, who, in 1995 at the age of 43, suffered a stroke that paralyzed his entire body, except his left eye. Using that eye to blink out his memoir, Bauby eloquently described the aspects of his interior world, from the psychological torment of being trapped inside his body to his imagined stories from lands he’d only visited in his mind.

I really want to see this one, I heard it’s unbelievably magical and inspiring. Can you imagine “blinking” out your memoirs? It’s back tonight!

I think it’s just because the show is so flippin’ awesome, it’s almost like a little holiday or festival around these parts.

And not only that, but we have Scrubs, The Office and 30 Rock on as well, so tonight is jammed packed with TV goodness. On a slightly lesser note, tonight’s Smallville also looks pretty awesome.

Now, remember (without groaning) that Lost is on at 10/9C from now on, meaning it’s an hour later than before. That’s good for those that want to watch the three NBC comedies above, and then get to watch Lost right after.

Of course, DVRers would rather it be on at 9/8c so we could then skip the commercials and get to bed at a decent hour.

No matter what, I’ll be the one up the latest most likely, as I slave over the recap just for your benefit.

Tonight’s episode, The Shape of Things to Come looks pretty thrilling and action-packed. Things explode, there is yelling and probably flashbacks/flash forwards.

Can’t wait.

As Variety says, NBC is also trying to capitalize on the pre-hype surrounding Tina Fey’s Baby Mama, which she stars in and is releasing soon.

Now that 30 Rock is on AFTER The Office, hopefully more people stick around to watch it. I’m not sure how much it affects those of us with DVRs, as we watch what we want, when we want, but I think a few of you out there should give this show a chance!

Alright, it was flat-out awesome to have NBC’s comedy powerhouses back in action last night. You know, it’s kind of funny to think about how Thursday night’s used to be Must See TV with Friends, Seinfeld, Will and Grace, etc., on NBC, and then those shows went off the air and we all yawned.

Well, NBC is back. I know I don’t watch My Name is Earl, but others do and find it funny, so the fact that they have four popular comedies on in a row is pretty amazing.

The Office was hilarious as always, but almost a bit more awkward than funny at times this week. I still love the dysfunction that exists between Michael and Jan. They seem so in love, they call each other babe, they have a camera set up over their bed, yet Michael has to sleep at the foot of it on a couch and can’t have his beer sign up.

I loved the song written by Hunter, and JIm stealing it at the end. I was hoping the song would at some point say…”and her name was Jan….” so we knew it was written about her, but that never happened.

Good stuff, here’s one of my favorite clips from last night I liked. You can watch the entire episode over on Hulu.com (30 Rock and Scrubs too).

30 Rock…I know not as many people watch this as do The Office, but it’s just as funny sometimes, if not more so, and written just as well. Last night’s episode had a mysterious quote in the paper said by one of the NBC employees, who were all busy watching the hit reality series, MILF Island, which just cracks me up.

The way Alec Baldwin is so in love with MILF Island is hilarious. Anyways, here is a clip below. Liz Lemon is the one who said the horrible quote, and who also can’t stand MILF Island, so you’ll see how she in fact acts just like one of the MILFs.

“Listen to me little Abner, keep your fried baloney hole shut!”

Hilarious!

I didn’t get to finish watching Scrubs, but I enjoyed what I saw so far. Turk speaking Spanish now, and getting his wife to make him “brinner” and ignoring sex is classic Scrubs.

And the little high-five moment between J.D. and Turk…when J.D. adds the “down low”…hilarious!

All in all, a good return for NBC’s comedy night…looking forward to next week as usual.
