First it was The Power of Love for Back to the Future and now Huey Lewis has created a theme song for the new Judd Apatow comedy, Pineapple Express.

It stars Seth Rogan and James Franco, and it’s all about smoking pot and being chased by bad guys. At least, that’s what the trailer looks like.

The song by Lewis is called simply Pineapple Express, and you can go listen to it over on the official sountrack site for the movie on MySpace.

Jason wrote a few months ago about Judd Apatow’s next project, which was to include Sandler and Seth Rogan, along with Leslie Mann.

It sounded good then, just to dream about Sandler possibly doing something great with a guy who knows how to write funny movies.

We’re now getting the basic plot of the film: A dramedy about the life of stand-up comics.

According to First Showing, Apatow started doing stand-up in his final year of high school, met Adam Sandler and then learned that he could write a better joke than he could tell it.

I like the idea of this film, which Sandler tells MTV is “very, very funny”:

“There is a lot of stuff going on in the move that is pretty heartbreaking.” He also adds that, “it’s very, very funny. [Me and] my friends who have read the script, all of us were baffled how funny it is.”

Apatow added:

“It’s a comedy, but it has more drama in it. A hilarious drama is what I’m going for,” Apatow said. “Every movie, I’m trying to find a way to go deeper, to tell stories about subjects that are important and make them less and less broad while making them equally as funny. [This film is] another step in that progression.

On another note, Eric Bana has been approached by Apatow to co-star in the film alongside Sandler.

For those of you looking for Sandler to finally have that great comedy, this could be the one. What do you think? Do Apatow and Sandler sound like a winning combo?

His latest flick is sure to be another Kevin Smith “classic.” Zack and Miri Make a Porno is getting a lot of attention and a lot of buzz, mostly because it’s about, well, people making a porno, and it stars Seth Rogan and Elizabeth Banks.

They’ve just released our first look at the film. It’s a Red Band teaser and it is definitely not safe for work…or for home… Better watch this one with headphones on in the dark and by yourself.

Pineapple Express is about lazy stoner Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) who has only one reason to visit his equally lazy dealer Saul Silver (James Franco): to purchase weed, specifically, a rare new strain called Pineapple Express. But when Dale becomes the only witness to a murder by a crooked cop (Rosie Perez) and the city’s most dangerous drug lord (Gary Cole), he panics and dumps his roach of Pineapple Express at the scene. Dale now has another reason to visit Saul: to find out if the weed is so rare that it can be traced back to him. And it is. As Dale and Saul run for their lives, they quickly discover that they’re not suffering from weed-fueled paranoia; incredibly, the bad guys really are hot on their trail and trying to figure out the fastest way to kill them both.

Pineapple Express will be hitting theaters on August 8, 2008.

Initially I wasn’t too crazy about the idea for the film, but after seeing the first trailer I actually starting thinking the film might be pretty funny. If you skipped that trailer or don’t like watching Red Band trailers you might want to check this one out and see what you think.

Apatow has tapped Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann to star in the next comedy he’ll direct. The untitled film will be a co-production of Universal Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment with production to start in late summer or early fall.

Apatow is the sole writer on the project and is keeping the plot under tight wrap. Whatever he comes up with it’s gotta be funnier than Chuck and Larry…

Sandler next appears in You Don’t Mess with the Zohan which was actually written by Apatow and Sandler and is set for release on June 6, 2008.

The Judd Apatow movie centers around some poor high school geeks who enlist the help of Owen Wilson to help stop their torment. It’s not out until March 21st, 2008, but I figure you’d like to see the preview now.

The fact that it’s made by Apatow is all I need to know. It’s funny how some of these writers/producers get on a roll and everything they touch is gold. Like J.J. Abrams with Alias and then Lost, Apatow is doing the same thing with his roster of successful comedies. Although Drillbit Taylor appears to be written in part by Seth Rogan and Apatow is only producing.
