More "Damages" casting news: Timothy Olyphant is added

Just a week ago we heard the news that William Hurt was joining the stellar cast of the FX show Damages, but that’s not the only big name to be added to this legal thriller.

Timothy Olyphant, from the recent Hitman and Live Free or Die Hard films, is now on-board according to Seat42F.

Now, I don’t want to overstate this news like it’s Tom Hanks joining or anything like that, but anytime you get an actor who has played the lead in a few motion pictures, it’s a big get.

Damages now boasts the likes of Glenn Close, Rose Byrne, possibly Ted Danson, to go with the newbies in Hurt and Olyphant. That’s an awesome group of actors and it just gets me more pumped for the second season.

Of course, that’s not until 2009, but whatever.

Oh yeah, if you haven’t watched the first season yet, I suggest you rent Disc 1 and see what you think. It’s a 13 episode legal mystery action thriller that is worth every second.

No word yet on what role Olyphant will be playing.

William Hurt joins "Damages"

I have no idea yet if Ted Danson is returning for a second season of Damages, but now that William Hurt has reportedly joined the cast, the villain torch may be passing to a new guy.

Hurt is currently the bad guy in The Incredible Hulk, and with his stellar acting abilities, I can’t think of a better choice to join the already brilliant cast of Glenn Close, Rose Byrne and Tate Donovan.

From the press release:

Hurt joins Damages for a season-long arc as a new client of Patty Hewes (Glenn Close). Details of Hurt’s character are being kept under wraps, but insiders have intimated that Hurt’s character will not only share a professional past with Hewes, but a personal one as well.

Production on the new season begins on July 24th, although no episodes will be seen until early 2009.

Damages renewed for two seasons

One of the greatest seasons of TV that I’ve watched in awhile isn’t going away so quickly. Or at all.

I wrote a few weeks back that Damages had been re-upped for sophomore season, but now FX has officially announced that they’ve ordered 26 more episodes of the critically acclaimed show, which amounts to two more seasons.

So far Glenn Close, Rose Byrne and Tate Donovan are all signed for the second season. No word on anyone else, especially Ted Danson, who’s portrayal of Arthur Frobisher was one of the most enjoyable characters I’ve seen in awhile. He should be up for an Emmy next year for it.

No word on when the DVD will be released yet, but you will know as soon as I do. Once it’s out, it’s a must-watch, especially if the WGA strike continues.

Damages coming back for second season!

According to the Ausiello Report on TVGuide.com, Damages has been renewed for a 13-episode second season, the same number of episodes that will be shown this summer.

Ratings have been pretty low, barely 4.9 million viewers a week, and only 2.9 million watch the show LIVE (who does that?), but the show has been critically acclaimed enough to warrant a renewal.

Woot!

I am kind of surprised, because it made sense to have it only one season, because you just aren’t sure how the characters could work together after what has happened this year.

But a few tidbits are out there.

Arthur Frobisher wont be back more than likely.
Next year will focus on two cases, not just one

I for one am now looking forward to it. Another great summer show to add to other gems like Rescue Me, Entourage and Flight of the Conchords.

Don’t forget the Damages Marathon this Saturday. I promise you…watch a few episodes and you’ll be hooked!
