Last month Mike shared with us how the trailer for The Strangers (official site) scared the crap out of him. I have to admit it was a pretty freaky trailer. One of the most disturbing images from the preview was a shot of Liv Tyler standing in her living room as one of “the strangers” enters the room behind her wearing a mask. This scene was replicated for the official one-sheet poster for the film which was released exclusively to ShockTillYouDrop.com yesterday (yeah, we don’t get the exclusives just yet).

Despite the haunting image on the poster, I think I actually like the teaser poster for this film better than this one. That poster had its own disturbing image: Liv Tyler, bloodied and crawling on the ground, searching for escape. I thought the colors and imagery of that poster worked well together and really drew attention to itself. This poster seems to be a lot more mainstream, and, hence, a lot more like all the other posters out there.

According to the poster, the film is “inspired” by true events. I wouldn’t place a lot of stock in that as almost any story could be said to be inspired by true events. Still, the idea that strangers would attack a couple who are in their own home, isolated, is kind of scary. If you like scary movies this might be a good choice for you.

The Strangers stars Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler and opens in theaters on May 30, 2008.

There are some previews for horror movies that look pretty scary, but I know I could probably sit through them and be okay. In fact, I feel that way about most of them, although The Ring was pretty freaky looking. I did see it, but it took two sittings.

Well, here comes along a new trailer for The Strangers and I almost couldn’t even finish that.

Alright, I exaggerate a bit, but honestly, this is one of the scariest previews I’ve ever seen. Just think about staying in a nice vacation home with your significant other out in the woods. That sounds nice…peaceful even. Someone’s getting lucky for sure.

But then throw in three scary people wearing white masks ranging from a hockey mask to the face of a doll. And all they seem to be doing is trying to kill you, but in the most terrorizingly ways possible.

And don’t miss the little note during it…”based on a true story.”

Yeah, I didn’t need to know that.

The Strangers stars Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman and is directed by Bryan Bertino, which is his debut in that capacity and also his first writing credit.

There is a scene in the trailer where Tyler is standing in the kitchen off to the left, looking towards the camera, and you see one of the assailants walk in from behind and just stand there.

Umm…no thank you.

So here you go…watch it and let us know what you think. If you can’t see it here, there is another high-quality version over at Yahoo.com.

Here is the theatrical poster for The Strangers below…Liv looks like she might be hurtin’ a little bit…

I want to add, this poster rocks. I love the sickly orange color, and showing Tyler crawling across the floor covered in cuts and blood is awesome. It tells you exactly what the movie is about.
