Universal Says “Thanks, but no thanks” To ‘Tintin’
In what sounds like an incredibly bone-headed move from a business point of view, Universal Pictures has pulled out of the Tintin adaptation. They have declined to exercise an option to co-finance Tintin, which is already set up as a trilogy to be produced and directed by Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson.
Huge fire destroys Universal back lot
A sad story coming out of California yesterday, a large fire took place on a back lot of Universal Studios, destroying items from Back to the Future and King Kong, plus over 40,000 videos housed in a warehouse.
The fire broke out very early Sunday morning on Universal’s 400-acre back lot, destroying 40,000-50,000 videos, which luckily are all backed up somewhere else. The videos contained very film Universal has ever done, plus some older television series.
Gore Verbinski Signs On For “Bioshock” Movie
Variety is reporting that Gore Verbinski has signed on with Universal to direct a big screen adaptation of “Bioshock”. “Bioshock” is a hit videogame from last year that won numerous awards and sold more than 2 million units worldwide.
Universal unveils Blu-Ray plans for 2008
Universal, the company that jumped the HD-DVD ship once Toshiba switched to Blu-Ray, has announced their plans for 2008 in terms of what they are releasing on Blu-Ray.
Starting this summer with the box-office disappointment Doomsday, Universal will start simultaneously releasing titles in Blu-Ray as well as the good ol’ DVD versions.
