"Look, we got it covered. We’re just trying to find a place to put Mike’s yogurt while we do the job." - Sam, Burn Notice

Movie Review: 21 (2008)

Movie Review: 21 (2008)

One of the first things I figured would happen when I saw the movie 21 was that I’d get to find out just how badly they changed the original story from the book, Bringing Down the House. I read it a few years back and was just astounded by how these guys took Vegas casinos for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

After some brief research before writing this review, I discovered that it really didn’t matter what the final screenplay ended up being for 21 because the book itself apparently butchered more than the film ever could.

HBO: Hard Knocks - Training Camp with the Dallas Cowboys (Episode 3)

We begin Episode three of Hard Knocks 2008 with the coaches evaluating the performance of the players during the San Diego preseason game. The first team was solid and efficient so coaches are giving them a lot of praise. However, the second team and beyond had very little praise as they were far less productive compared to the second and third string of the Chargers. Danny Amendola’s fumble on his first punt return was mentioned. That’s not good for the fan favorite underdog.

Movie Review: Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) - The Force Gets Animated by ThinkBox

First things first. You’ve got to check out the Star Wars: The Clone Wars official site. It is jam packed with all things Clone Wars such as videos, games, downloads, characters, screen shots, etc. You could spend days playing around on it. Loads of fun. In fact, I’ve spent more time on that site in the past week than I have on my wife (it’s a married thing - some of you will understand.) Sadly, I wish I could say I was just joking.

Movie Review: Mirrors (2008) by Jason

Kiefer Sutherland stars as a former policeman-turned-security guard who discovers something sinister lurking in the mirrors of a crumbling museum in writer/director Alexandre Aja’s menacing study in the origins of evil.

Movie Review: Tropic Thunder (2008) by Jason

A group of self-absorbed actors set out to make the most expensive war film. But after ballooning costs force the studio to cancel the movie, the frustrated director refuses to stop shooting, leading his cast into the jungles of Southeast Asia, where they encounter real bad guys.

HBO: Hard Knocks - Training Camp with the Dallas Cowboys (Episode 2) Recap

This show begins with some shots of Jerry Jones’ grandkids. As if Jerry Jones reads PopCritics, he then proceeds to participate in Slapface - the game from The Office promo that we posted about. T.O. also plays with the Jerry’s grandchildren by torturing one in an ice bath. It looks like the producers want to make sure Owens has plenty of camera time.

Finale/Season review: In Plain Sight

The 11-episode first season of In Plain Sight came to a dramatic and emotional conclusion last night in the finale dubbed A Fine Meth.

This final episode was at times almost unbearable. The stuff that comes out when Mary, her sister Brandi and their mother Jinx decide to lay out all their cards on the table, was brutal and tough to watch. There was an amazing amount of crying and yelling between the three women, so much so that the normal humor that underlies every episode was noticeably missing.

HBO: Hard Knocks - Training Camp with the Dallas Cowboys (Episode 1) Recap

We begin episode one of Hard Knocks (2008) Training Camp with the Dallas Cowboys with shots of Jason Witten, Tony Romo, and Martellus Bennett leaving their homes and families. Blah, blah, blah. They have more money than you and I do combined so their houses are big and fancy. Yada yada yada… yeah, your families will miss you but not your money.

Music Review: Third Day - Revelation - Vaults to Elite Status

Someday around the year, uh, Zero Jesus Christ was born. Independence Day for the United States is celebrated on July 4th. On the 20th day of November in 1974, yours truly was born. Saturday is my favorite day. And on Tuesday, July 29th 2008, Third Day released their latest CD - Revelation.

Book Review: The Greatest Sci-Fi Movies Never Made by David Hughes (2008)

In Hollywood there are always dozens and dozens of film projects that are in various stages of development. Some of those projects eventually make it to the screen while others, for various reasons, languish in development hell for untold ages. This book is their story.

Movie Review: The American Mall (2008)

When Mike received a request to preview MTV’s new made-for-TV movie, The American Mall, it’s no surprise that he turned to the one person he knows that loves all things super-cheese and pre-teen.

Yes, I am the same girl who has actually watched the Hilary and Hailey Duff movie (one thing to my credit - I have no recollection of the title of the movie), who not only watches ABC Family’s Greek but has actually checked out the website too… more than once, and the same girl who is still searches for similarities between her husband and Seth Cohen.

Comic book review: Blade of Warrior: Kshatriya

Virgin Comics sent us the first issue of Blade of Warrior: Kshatriya, a brand new comic book from writer Arjun Gaind and artist R. Manikandan, and here is a review and a short preview of the first five pages.

The basic plot of the comic covers the history of an ancient Indian kingdom where a young boy is crowned as the next king, but his jealous older brother will have none of it and proceeds to make a deal with an evil spirit to help take back what he feels is rightfully his.

Comic Book review: The Black Coat - 52 page standalone

One of the highlight of Comic Con for me was discovering the comic book series The Black Coat, created by Ben Lichius and Francesco Francavilla. It’s a swashbuckling tale of a Zorro-like hero during The American Revolution period of the United States history, with a hefty dose of monsters and creepy villains thrown in for good measure.

If you enjoy history, and also love comic book superheroes, it’s a great series. The writing and historical aspects of it are fantastic, and the artwork (mostly black and white) seems to jump out at you from the pages.

Movie review: The Hammer (2007) by Mike

Who would have thought Adam Carolla could make a decent romantic comedy about boxing?

Or a decent movie for that matter?

But that’s just what he did in The Hammer, a film that stars Carolla as a 40-year old construction worker who used to be a pretty solid amateur boxer before giving it up.

Movie review: X-Files: I Want To Believe (2008) by Mike

I wanted to believe that the newest X-Files movie was going to be awesome and mind-blowing, but instead experienced what amounted to a long-lost episode from the TV series.

And that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it. I was a huge fan of the Fox hit and just seeing Fox Mulder and Dana Scully one more time is always welcomed.
