There is a lot said by a kid when it comes to Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus) but the word is out and the Disney channels hit show Hannah Montana will come to an end. Miley Cyrus has played as Hannah Montana on the Disney channel show for four years and there has been good and bad said about the show but all shows must come to an end sometime.

It is true that Miley Cyrus has said that her Hannah Montana days are up and beginning to turn the pop superstar into something more. Yes I say these days for the Hannah era are done! Disney has had their hands around this young lady’s neck for some time now and it is about that time they will have to let her go. EW.com has some of the scoop on a new and improved Miley and they leave you with this.

EW.COM:

She’s done with Disney. She’s open to nude scenes (“If it’s something that’s classy”). And you know why? Because Miley Cyrus Cannot Be Tamed.
The millionaire Mouseketeer, soon to be free of her Hannah Montana chains, will release the video for new single “Can’t Be Tamed,” from the upcoming album of the same name, on Tuesday, May 4 via E!,

I think that when a star reaches a certain point in their life they become more aware of how they are or how they will be treated in life. How will this new single “Can’t Be Tamed” reflect on Miley? To me it is just another song for her to add to her collection of hits. I have said in the past that she would make it big and now is her time by leaving Disney and trying something different.

I have to say that I will miss seeing her show Hannah Montana but all good things alike has to fall and come to it’s end someday. I will leave you with this music of her new single “Can’t Be Tamed” from YouTube but the video is not up at this time. E! News will host the Premiere Video at 7pm on May 4, 2010. I have to say that just listening to the song has her saying that she can’t be tamed. Miley has come a long way.

Even though she has already had other great hits like “The Climb”, and “Party in the USA” this new song could be one that may help her climb get even higher. Listen to the song here and it makes you want to say “Hey we have another Lady Gaga tune without the Gaga going crazy. I wish Miley with great success in the world of TV or music.

Elin Nordegren says it is over with Tiger Woods and hauls off kids out of town on Monday April 19, 2010. What is your opinion on this? She dosen't like the idea of her husband's return to the green, and she thinks he should be working more on their marriage instead of playing golf. Just how over is this marriage for Elin and Tiger?

Elin Nordegeren has been married to America’s favorite golfer Tiger Woods for a few years now and she is saying that it is over. Tiger has been talking to Elin on the phone the past few days but mainly talking to her about divorce. Elin and the kids have left Tiger for another vacation as to say. Is she coming back this time? Only time will tell as we can see it this time.

Elin was born in Stockholm, Sweden where she grew up took a job in a Stockholm clothing store called Champagne, where she met Mia Parnevik, wife of Swedish golfer Jasper Parnevik, who hired Nordegren as the nanny to their children, a job that required her to move to the U.S.. He introduced her to Woods during the 2001 British Open. Previously, Woods had asked for a year to be introduced to Nordegren, who was seeing someone else at the time. “There was a big line of single golfers wanting to meet her. They were going crazy over her.” She had hopes of becoming a child psychiatrist at the time and was concerned about appearing to be a “gold-digger”.

Tiger and Elin were married in 2004 and would have two kids Sam Alexis Woods which was born in 2007 and Charlie Woods born in 2009. It is rumored that the white, six-bedroom house located in the center of Faglaar Island near Stockholm is the one Elin Nordegren had puchased in December. This is suppose to be the place where Elin and the kids are at now to be away from Tiger during this time of the separation. It has been know in this home there is no indoor plumbing or water due to the fact that it is on an island surrounded by ice. I have to say this may not be the best place to run with two kids when there are plenty of other places to go when you have the money they have.

Tiger gave his apology back on February 19, 2010 on CNN. Many people took the apology as just a way for him to get out of the situation and get back to the greens. As we can see Elin had other things in mind when he gave this apology. Was the fact of him cheating on her helping his marriage? I would say no.

Now that there is talk of the two divorcing there maybe a lot of tears shed and words passed that should not be there to start with, but that is what comes with the divorce. Back in February Tiger said “My apology to Elin will not come in words but from my behavor to come.” It has also been said that Tiger and some friends went to Orland to a Nickelback concert after Elin left and ended up back stage with security all around.

At this time all I can say is ” Tiger you need to lay off the golf course and start working on whats left in of this marriage.” Maybe picking up fishing would even be better for him at this time. Golf has brought Tiger a long ways but it is now running his marriage off to Sweden along with his kids.

Tiger's apology on Friday February 19,2010 on CNN was sincere and accepted by many. But there are still some that will not accept it.

Friday February 19,2010 at 11:00 am CNN gave live footage of golfs famous Tiger Woods. Is his apology doing him good or bad for the sport of golf? Did he do it in order to make things better for his wife and family? Should we want our kids to admire someone like him after the things he has done? Do we as the public accept what Tiger has done as far as his apology go’s?

There is so many good and bad things that go on in the world of sports and we let so many of the bad things pass without notice. I think that the apology Tiger gave we good but should not have been toward the critics that have been criticizing him from the start. His apology was mainly for his wife, kids, family, and friends. There was sincere emotion in his speech even though it was done from paper.

Even if he had to read his feelings we should accept as people. His statements were that he never showed harm or violence to his wife or kids. The statement toward the press about them following his kids to school was directed strictly to the press and was done in a firmly matter.

Tigers Words:

“My apology to Elin will not come in words but from my behavor to come.”

Elin whom is Tigers wife was not on site of the event because she chose not to be. She had that right not to be if she so chose to do so.

One of the women of Tigers allegedly affairs even gave statement on national TV about that she should never had this happen to her. My opinion on her statement is this.

Why did you have the affair with him to start with knowing he was married? Did you not know that it takes two to have an affair?

“I think that what ever this woman gets then she deserves all of it. Rather it be good or bad she should not blame everything on him but should also blame herself for getting herself in this trash.” Only one of the ladies whom was 21 at the time did not know that Tiger was married and she was OK with the apology that Tiger had given.

I would say that Tiger is on a start of trying to change his life around after what has taken place here. He has been through a lot but in his rehab he will continue to go through more before it is over all together. Tiger also had mentioned that he was unsure of how long it will be before he will be back to golf on the PGA Tour. There were only about forty people allowed at the news event for this speaking of Tiger Woods. Most of the people there were family and friends and employs of the PGA Tour.

I wish all becomes well for him and his family and hope to see him back on the greens soon no matter what anyone says. When we make as much money as he has done then that’s when we should be able to hold him to a lower standard than we do today. But for now the damage has been done and has been apologize for so we should let it go. Watch the small clip video below.

Walt Disney buys Marvel Entertainment. What does this mean for the future of the Marvel name, its legacy, and its projects already in the works?

I learned that Disney bought Marvel for 4 billion dollars. First, what a shock, I mean really a shock, but at the same time I do have kids.

On Disney XD, Spiderman and the old X-Men cartoons have been airing for a while now.

Who knows how long this has been in the works?

Will Disney water down marvel altogether?

Will characters be left out in the cold?

Will marvel games suffer or strive?

Will all the movies that are in the works be cut?

What about Hulk 2, Captain America, Thor, and — the one I can’t wait to see — The Avengers.

I hope that all goes well with this.

Since both are companies that I grew up with and loved, I hope that this will be good for both names and that it will work out at least as well as WB owning DC and that maybe we will get some movies like The Dark Knight coming from Disney /Marvel or D-Marvel. Just joking hope they don’t do that crap but all these questions and more will be answered in time.

Pop Critics is getting a new movies, books, and TV database. I'm hoping for some feedback on what features should be included.

I know things have been slow around here lately, but I’m hoping things will pick up here in 2009. The holidays didn’t offer much time for any of us to write, and I’ve been overly busy with my real job lately.

We’re still looking for new writers to join our team. Right now, we don’t have any regular writers, which is one reason for things being so slow. As always, check out the writing page if you want to write for the site.

The real reason for this article

I’m actually developing a new section of this site to house a large database of movies, books, and television shows, and I’d like some feedback. Basically, this section of the site will allow you to find these easily. There’ll be a place to discuss, rate, and get info on each.

Here’s an idea of what a post might look like:

Preview of the Pop Critics database

What I want from you

I need to name the new section of the site. Thus far, the only name I have is Pop Critics Database, which might work, but I’d be happy to hear any alternate suggestions.

What features should this part of the site include? Currently, I want to add a few things for each movie, book, and TV show:

Director, Actors, Writers

Release/publication date

Summary

Rating

Useful links

I’m also open to any other suggestions you might have for this new section of the site.

Yesterday morning we heard that The Sci Fi Channel is moving Charlie Jade to a new day and time. Starting next week, it’ll be taking over the coveted Monday 3am slot.

I can’t be too upset by this. Clearly the show was underperforming on Friday nights and the programming wizards at SciFi needed to move it. What impresses me is the depth of analysis they performed to figure out its new home. Who knew Charlie Jade did so well with insomniacs and people who buy Flowbies?

Taking its place on Fridays will be a repeat of the prior week’s episode of Doctor Who. I can’t say anything bad about the great British import other than asking how he keeps his neck warm without a proper muffler.

SciFi made several errors with Charlie Jade, some of them specific to this show and some of them indicative of systemic flaws. I figured I’d use this opportunity not just to look at the ways they went wrong, but also to discuss the future of science fiction television.

Self-fulfilling Programming Prophesy

I watch the SciFi channel for two hours a week. One, now that BSG is done for the summer. But that’s more than enough time for me to have seen dozens of promos for Scare Tactics and Ghost Hunters. I believe I can repeat verbatim the voice overs from the ads for both those shows. The former is a retread of a show from a few years back that no one watched, hoping to garner ratings by riding Tracy Morgan’s coattails. The latter is one of SciFi’s biggest performers. I mean, bigger than Doctor Who. Bigger than BSG some weeks.

I’m not going to take this opportunity to bash Ghost Hunters. If you enjoy watching retards chase moths and fluttering leaves, that’s fine by me. I am going to bash the SciFi promotions department for failing to advertise or promote Charlie Jade in any way. How many ads for Charlie Jade do you suppose SciFi showed during episodes of top-rated Ghost Hunters?

Then again, why should the network have used up valuable ad space promoting a show that had no chance of performing? That doesn’t make fiscal sense. A dark, brooding mystery where the protagonist is an amoral anti-hero, one of your principals is a terrorist, and another a murderous sociopath is NOT going to do well at 8pm on Friday nights. Particularly not when it is taking over the spot of a show targeted at the under-12 set.

The Sarah Jane Adventures, for those who don’t have young children or extreme nostalgia for the Jon Pertwee/Tom Baker era of Doctor Who, is a spinoff of DW featuring the popular companion and a bunch of kids solving mysteries. I suspect when CJ premiered, not a few children tuned in thinking they were going to see their pal Sarah and instead were traumatized for life by Charlie’s stubble, not to mention 01 Boxer’s…unique ways of dealing with conflict.

SciFi had no expectation that Charlie Jade would succeed, so they spent little money promoting it and stuck it in a time slot where it was doomed for failure. But *because* they spent so little and stuck it in an inappropriate slot, they virtually guaranteed its failure.

18To34Tv

SciFi used to be a niche cable channel. We’ve still got one or two of those: FoodTV and…um…QVC? Over the past few years, SciFi has slowly and subtly been repositioning itself, like several other cable properties. Their clear goal is to target the rich demographic bracket of 18-34 year-old males. That demo spends a lot of money on entertainment and big ticket items, and is much prized by advertisers.

Think I’m exaggerating? What does the ECW have to do with science fiction? Or Tracy Morgan’s down-market version of Punk’d? Or Ghost Hunters? I know an argument can be made for the latter, but anyone so doing would have to admit to being one of the retarded fans of the retarded “paranormal investigators”. (Huh, guess I am going to bash that show. A lot.)

Why doesn’t NBC Universal just build a new cable channel from the ground up to attract that demo? Because it’s *hard* to launch a new cable channel. The lineups of cable and satellite providers don’t change very often, and convincing them to add a new feed can take years. If no one offers it, the channel has no viewers, and that in turn makes it hard to convince the providers to offer it. If you think that sounds familiar to the promotion problem I outlined about Charlie Jade, you’re correct. These selection biases abound in entertainment.

Some of you probably have seen the network Spike. I watch it from time to time. It is a network that unabashedly targets that 18-34 male demo. I applaud them for their honesty and marketing savvy. Spike TV has only been with us since 2003, which might seem to shoot holes in my “hard to launch” theory…except of course that Spike used to be TNN, The Nashville Network. It was easier for Viacom to completely re-brand and reposition an existing property in its portfolio than launch one from scratch.

I expect in another year, after BSG has ended its run, NBC Universal will accelerate the niche-drift on SciFi and complete its transformation into a new network Aimed at Men. Then they can compete head-to-head with Spike for dominance: MMA vs ECW, reruns of Star Trek vs reruns of Enterprise. I’ll even offer them the name 18To34, royalty-free.

Science Fiction Mainstream

I find it interesting that the programming and promotions departments at ABC Family have a better idea how to schedule and market science fiction than the folks at SciFi. The Middleman and Kyle XY are both heavily promoted lynchpins in the network’s schedule. Both are as different in tone from each other as they are from Charlie Jade, but ABC Family finds a way to make room for them. And it’s not just on ABC Family. Across the dial you can find science fiction shows.

I’m tempted to argue the time might be past where we even need a niche channel devoted to science fiction. In the last year, the broadcast networks aired Lost, Heroes, Journeyman, Bionic Woman, and Chuck. Some are hits, some bombs. Clearly SF has become more mainstream. Still, there are certain types of SF that just don’t do well with general audiences.

During the WGA strike, NBC aired BSG to fill schedule holes. It got slaughtered. I want to blame NBC’s promotions department for doing as piss-poor a job as their corporate siblings at SciFi; however, only a small part of the blame can be placed on their shoulders. BSG *looks* like science fiction – unlike the castaways on Lost, or the polite nerd on Chuck – and that is a very hard sell. Science fiction, for all its mainstream acceptance, is still fundamentally a ghetto genre.

Just ask the Nobel committee. They, along with some uptight literary critics, had to invent “magic realism” in order to give Gabriel García Márquez the Nobel Prize for Literature.

(No joke. Read “One Hundred Years of Solitude”. Then watch the episode “Cause and Effect” of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I’m not arguing that a piece of pop culture can compare to one of the greatest novels of the 20th century in terms of quality. But in terms of story?)

The Future for the Niche

I believe there is actually room for a true SF channel, one that can attract original voices and give them a chance to create innovative shows. But it’s far too late to do that on cable and satellite. We’ve already seen the lengths Viacom had to go in order to break through the calcification of the lineups. The providers already offered TNN, so Viacom just changed the name and every single show on it in order to create a “new” channel. Unless someone out there has a broadly distributed channel they would be willing to convert, that is not the way. The way lies with New Media.

There are already dozens of niche offerings out there, but no one has tried to create a single forum, a single broadcast channel in which to consolidate them. I’d imagine we’ll see some headway on that front in the next few years. Hell, all we need is for FOX to axe Dollhouse, Fringe, and Virtuality all in the first season and it might happen next year. Think of the possibilities of an Internet-based network founded by Joss Whedon, J.J. Abrams, and Ronald Moore, dedicated to developing and promoting innovative, cutting-edge science fiction.

I almost hope FOX does cancel all three shows, just to see that happen right before our eyes.

What of poor Charlie?

Charlie Jade *is* still scheduled on SciFi. They haven’t canceled it, just buried it. Since I imagine most people are time-shifting with DVRs anyway, it’s really not that big a deal for existing viewers. New viewers, of course, are off the table. No one is going to “discover” this little gem of a show at 3am. But as long as SciFi airs it, and as long as Mike and Jason are willing to give me the space, I’ll be recapping CJ here at Pop Critics.

Of course if SciFi decides they need that primo 3am Monday slot to sell Cortislim or “Hip Hop Abs”, then I guess I’ll give it up.

Is David Hernandez A Gay Strip Club Dancer?

A manager at a male strip club in Phoenix told The Associated Press that American Idol contestant, David Hernandez, once worked as a stripper at his club. Gordy Bryan, the manager of Dick’s Cabaret in Glendale, Arizona, told the AP on Monday that the 24 year old David Hernandez appeared fully nude while working at the club and performed lap dances for the club’s “mostly male” clientele.

“He had the look and the type that people like, so he made pretty good money here,” Bryan said.

According to Bryan, Hernandez steadily worked at the club for three years until September 30, 2007.

“He never renewed his licensing with the state, so he hasn’t been on my roster since then,” Bryan said.

The manager went on to say that he was aware that Hernandez was a vocalist but that Hernandez never sang at the club. Bryan said he believes Hernandez stopped working at the club because of his participation in “American Idol.” David Hernandez has never, of course, been referred to as a stripper, former stripper, or even a dancer during the “American Idol” competition.

How It Came To Light

The whole thing came to light last week when photos of a scantily clad Hernandez were first posted on VoteForTheWorst.com, a site that encourages people to vote for the worst contestants instead of the best ones on Idol.

“It was like moths to a flame,” said VoteForTheWorst.com founder Dave Della Terza. “As soon as I posted that, we started getting 10, 20 letters every single day from people saying, ‘Yeah, he’s a stripper in Phoenix.’”

Like any good website owner, Terza (with help from other members of the VoteForTheWorst.com community), scoured the internet for information and photos of Hernandez doing his thing. Terza said he contacted the club to confirm David Hernandez had worked there, but they never got back to him.

Will David Hernandez Be Disqualified From American Idol?

It’s not clear at this time whether or not a stripper past would disqualify Hernandez from “American Idol” should the rumors prove to be true. In 2003, finalist Frenchie Davis was dismissed because of her appearance on an adult Web site; but last year, Antonella Barba remained in the competition after racy photos of her surfaced on the Internet.

Fox has not yet responded to the rumors. As of right now David Hernandez is still scheduled to participate in the American Idol Top 8 Men performance show tonight.

It’s been rumored for a while now that New Line Cinema would be folded into Warner Brothers. Well, it looks like that day has finally come.

Below is the email that was circulated to all New Line employees.

To: New Line Colleagues
From: Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne
Subject: Our Company

This afternoon, Time Warner is announcing that New Line will become a unit of Warner Bros. This is, of course, a very difficult and emotional time for all of us who have worked at New Line. While there is not much we can say that can lessen the impact of this announcement, we did want you to know about the decision before you read about it in the press.

New Line will maintain its own identity and will continue to produce, market, and distribute movies. But New Line will now do so as part of Warner Bros. and will probably be a much smaller operation than in the past. Time Warner hopes that operating New Line as a unit of Warner Bros. will allow New Line to focus on the creative side of movie-making, while reducing costs and taking advantage of Warner Bros.’ distribution systems. The company will be holding group meeting with New Line employees tomorrow in Los Angeles and New York to discuss this announcement, and is committed to letting employees know as soon as possible about how this change affects them individually.

For our part, we will be stepping down as Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOS of New Line. This was a painful decision, because we love New Line and the people who work here have been like our second families. But we will be leaving the company with enormous pride in what all of us at New Line have accomplished together. From its humble beginnings 40 years ago, our studio has created some of the most popular and successful movies of all time. Those movies are a tribute to the amazing creative energy and entrepreneurial abilities of the talented people at New Line. They are a legacy that will endure forever.

Although we are stepping out of New Line, we intend to remain actively involved in the industry in an entrepreneurial capacity, and will keep you advised of developments.

We thank all of you who have worked so hard to make New Line such a success. We are very proud of every one of you.

Bob & Michael

What do you think this means for the movie world? Anything? Should we even care?

Actor Roy Scheider has passed away at the age of 75. Scheider died Sunday at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock, hospital spokesman David Robinson said. The hospital did not release a cause of death, but Scheider had been treated for multiple myeloma at the hospital’s Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy for the past two years.

Probably best known for his role in the film “Jaws” where he uttered one of the most memorable cinematic lines ever, “You’re gonna need a bigger boat,” Scheider was also an Oscar nominated actor. Scheider earned two Academy Award nominations in his lifetime â€â€? a best-supporting actor nomination for 1971′s “The French Connection” in which he played the police partner of Oscar winner Gene Hackman, and a best-actor nomination for 1979′s “All That Jazz,” the semi-autobiographical Bob Fosse film.

“I’ve been fortunate to do what I consider three landmark films,” he told The Associated Press in 1986. “‘The French Connection’ spawned a whole era of the relationship between two policemen, based on an enormous amount of truth about working on the job. ‘Jaws’ was the first big, blockbuster outdoor-adventure film. And certainly ‘All That Jazz’ is not like any old MGM musical. Each one of these films is unique, and I consider myself fortunate to be associated with them.”

Scheider went on to enjoy later success in television starring as Captain Nathan Bridger in the Steven Spielberg produced, “SeaQuest DSV.” Once that series ended in 1995, Scheider appeared mostly in television although he did have occasional big screen roles in films such as “The Rainmaker” in 1997 and “The Punisher” in 2004.

Roy Scheider was a great actor who will definitely be missed.
