The Friday Question – NFL Kickoff!
That’s right, it’s time for the National Football League to kick off the 2008 season. Yes, I know, there was a game last night, but true fans know deep down inside that SUNDAY is the real start date.
NFL Football is big in our house. We get The Ticket from DIRECTV and Sundays are dedicated to 90% football and 10% The Amazing Race/Dexter. The day begins with a big breakfast, then it’s NFL Countdown and finally The Games.
SNL Goes Olympic for Season Premiere
In an obvious, and brilliant, attempt at capitalizing on America’s sudden love for swimming, Saturday Night Live will premiere on September 13th with guest host Michael Phelps.
We’ve seen a lot of athletes appear on the sketch comedy mainstay, but none have been as memorable as the job Peyton Manning did.
HBO: Hard Knocks – Training Camp with the Dallas Cowboys (Episode 3)
We begin Episode three of Hard Knocks 2008 with the coaches evaluating the performance of the players during the San Diego preseason game. The first team was solid and efficient so coaches are giving them a lot of praise. However, the second team and beyond had very little praise as they were far less productive compared to the second and third string of the Chargers. Danny Amendola’s fumble on his first punt return was mentioned. That’s not good for the fan favorite underdog.
ESPN wants the 2014, 2016 Olympics and Will Eliminate Tape Delay
If ESPN ends up winning the rights to broadcast the Olympics in 2014 and 2016, they might just finally own everything there is when it comes to sports.
However, this guy isn’t complaining.
During a Monday Night Football kick-off press event, ESPN chief George Bodenheimer said that they are very interested in future Olympic rights and then went on to state how their broadcasts would differ from what NBC has done.
Phelps Good for Big Time Ratings Boost
We all knew Michael Phelps could make a splash in the pool but who knew he’d make such a splash on TV? Phelps’ pursuit of a record breaking eight gold medals in one Olympics has been the story of the Olympics so far and has now contributed to NBC’s largest audience on a Saturday in 18 years.
HBO: Hard Knocks – Training Camp with the Dallas Cowboys (Episode 2) Recap
This show begins with some shots of Jerry Jones’ grandkids. As if Jerry Jones reads PopCritics, he then proceeds to participate in Slapface – the game from The Office promo that we posted about. T.O. also plays with the Jerry’s grandchildren by torturing one in an ice bath. It looks like the producers want to make sure Owens has plenty of camera time.
The Friday Question – Olympic Fever!
The Olympics begin today with the opening ceremonies and I don’t know about you guys, but we just love the summer games in our house. And heck, the winter ones too.
I just get into all the stories about these athletes who have overcome so many odds to be where they are and I just can’t help but cheer them on.
Get your NFL Ticket SuperFan free before the end of the day!
A quicky post for you guys who subscribe to NFL Sunday Ticket every year on DirecTV, especially those fans of high definition.
I was just alerted by a buddy that there was a flyer sent out offering NFL Ticket to loyal customers for FREE. Check it out here and here. I didn’t get it, but a lot of people did.
Brett Favre wants what every retired athlete has ever wanted: To un-retire
Sports isn’t a normal topic around here, but since we reported Brett Favre’s retirement back in March, it seems only fitting that we also report his potential un-retirement.
Chris Mortensen from ESPN just posted an article in which he states that sources confirm Favre’s desire to play again. Favre has even supposedly talked directly to Mike McCarthy about returning to training camp this fall.
